Turned down a new contract at OT - why? Because he realised he would be in the squad but probably not even make the bench for the forseeable?

That is actually a big shame ... he plays ONE game, scores and then leaves ...

And this is where Chelsea with 30+ kids out on loan seems to make sense.

Jose's father has passed away today. I think he had been ill for a while- there was mention of issues with his father being a factor in the problems he was having at Chelsea and afterwards, but it's very sad in any case.

I'm not sure it sounds right, but it's good that it's in the off season so that he is around his family, rather than being stuck away from them in Manchester (pretty sure they haven't moved up yet?).

Anyone else seen the photos of Rooney in Ibiza and want to agree with me that the man has not taken his job seriously for quite a while now? He looks like a 45-year old bloke that hasnt been to the gym in 5 years.

Yep. Utter waster. Waste of his talent, and a waste of Man U money. Absolutely disgraceful.
My prediction is that he will be bankrupt by age 50.

I can't see us signing anybody after Saturday (1st July). Hoping we sign at least a forward this week, hopefully Ronaldo (plenty of cheap Ronaldo Portugal shirts here in Albufierabiggrin)

No chance, he has at least another year @ £300k a week & Coleen is far too smart .

Agreed, what a ridiculous statement. He's only looking fat on holiday; if that is grounds for bankruptcy, 3/4 of pistonheads wouldn't have a pot to piss in.

I agree. Not exactly piling on the pounds.

What the players do in their down time is entirely up to them but we all know that Rooney's metabolism isn't exactly the best and at his age now, will have to work twice as hard to shift the extra pounds! Net exactly the best chance he's giving himself tbh.

It's not 1980 - there's no excuse for a professional sportsman of any type to be in that kind of shape, no matter what time of year it is.

He is paid huge amounts of money just to stay fit and play football. He isn't doing the first part.

I would argue that I, at least, wouldn't care IF he put in world class performances. No one cared that George Best wasn't the model athlete.

Unfortunately Rooney hasn't been putting in performances either for several seasons.

What kind of shape?? He looks fine to me! Are you having a go at him for taking a holiday?

The one where he's probably a stone (being generous), overweight.

He's a stone overweight and has absolutely no shape to his upper body. You don't get that way without failing to exercise properly and/or drinking and/or not getting enough sleep. To lack any kind of muscularity in the arms, shoulders and chest shows he doesn't try hard enough with strength and conditioning (as well as being a drinker and a party animal).

Look at people like Valencia. That's how a footballer should look.

You're probably right, modern footballers earn such an insane amount of money compared to just 20 years ago. He'd have to pay off a lot of grannies to keep quiet to go through that lot smile

Just because someone has abs does not mean they are fit cardiovascular-wise ...

Carrying too much fat as a proportionof body weight is not good for anyone's health. Rooney looks like he could firm up a bit but to think he is EVER going to look like Valencia is rubbish - he is not genetically the same at all.

I am sure he undergoes the tests they set when back for training ... does he fail these every year?

What do people think Rooney actually weighs? 12 stone? 14 stone?
