So Zaha signs a new deal at palace.
Read this morning that West Brom are about to pay £25m and £100k p/w for Troy Deeny.
You can understand why some of our players are becoming miffed....
I don't see them angling for move to Palace or West Brom, do you?Read this morning that West Brom are about to pay £25m and £100k p/w for Troy Deeny.

It's irrelevant really. WBA have to pay £100k a week, as why else would you go there? Deeney is never going to get a move to a top 6 club, and at 28, it's probably an attractive proposition. No 1st team player is going to leave a top 6 club to go and play for WBA, regardless of what they pay. The Zaha deal is just to ensure that Palace get as big a payout as possible when they sell him. Again, no top 6 player is going to join Palace.
Salaries only become relevant when comparing similar clubs - or if you are Brazilian and find playing in Russia or China attractive. And whilst it's true that the richer clubs pay more than Spurs (for quite often inferior players), almost the whole Spurs squad are on long contracts. So they aren't really in a position to engineer a move for at least another couple of seasons, unless someone wants to pay a huge transfer fee. C'est la via. Every player at every club has a price. What you'll also notice is that the players keep getting contract renewals and increase. I think Alli's had 4 renewals already! Levy is daft enough to allow a player to for a move below their market price.
The only player's that are realistically in a position to go are Walker and maybe Toby. Unless Poch decides that it's worth selling Eriksen for X million so that he can sign Y. But that's how football works.

Surprised to not hear many rumours of Harry Kane moving.
Do any of you think he will be still at Spurs next season?
I'd be really surprised if he went anywhere other than Real or Barca.Do any of you think he will be still at Spurs next season?
I would think Levy is sat with his magic calculator now trying to work out how to give Kane, Delle and Pochettino big pay rises.
I don't think Spurs have much to worry about this year.
Look at the United and City shopping lists and for the most part it'll be expensive foreigners. (Bar Walker to City).
I'm struggling to see anyone going/being sold to Arsenal or Chelsea.
I suppose abroad you've got Barca, Real and Bayern, but not sure any the players are on their radars just yet.

First you need a rumour about how much Spurs would want to sell him.Do any of you think he will be still at Spurs next season?
Then you need a rumour about which club would be willing and able to pay that.
Then you can start rumours about him moving.

No, because they are better than west brom and palace, they just aren't paid better which is the point. As I said you can understand why they would get miffed. It's irrelevant really. Our pay structure is admirable but it isn't sustainable if you want to stay at the top of the league.

The only relevance is what salary clubs you would be prepared to move to pay. And that only becomes an issue when you are in the last couple of years of your contract. What is the point in giving everyone 30% pay rises when they are only 1 year into a 5 year contract? The smart thing is to gradually increase salaries with contract renewals, so that in 2-3 years, you are on parity with your peers. That may well be possible with increases in revenue over that period. Or you might decide that some players you are happy to sell, so why pay them more now?
If Alli decides that he wants a move to a Petro-Dollar club because he's been told they'll pay him £150k a week, fine. All he has to do is persuade said club to meet Spurs asking price. They'll always be someone earning more than you, somewhere in the world. Usually people look at the complete package rather than a single number. The only players who are in a position to force a move are Walker and Toby. Everyone else will have to struggle by on £3-5m a year, for the next 2 or 3 years, unless they can persuade a club to meeting our asking price.

If you worked at Waitrose or Marks & Spencers and were one of the best rated checkout guys around, would you be miffed that someone working at Asda or Lidl was being paid more than you? Yes.
Not if it was in a sthole, no. His point is that if Palace offered Toby A 200k a week you can guarantee he wouldn't bother going as it's a step down. However if one of the big clubs come in and offer 200k then he may well want to go. More money and still an opportunity to win.
