For me, it's all about the corner flag action.

It's pretty acurate too, we have a difficult window, our best XI is pretty much a closed book, so it takes a world beater to come in and dislodge someone, not too many of those about, and would be big big money. Then the middle band, expensive, but probably might have to fight for a place, aren't going to come.

I dunno, I see West Ham are in Talks to sign Hernandez, thats the kind of player we should be in for, seemingly happy as a squad player, will get game time, and more than likely will score when he gets on, his record is excellent.

I know in January we were sniffing around Mahrez, I still think that would be a good signing too, I know some people disagree, but he has the quality, can run, its what that Foxes Title win was based on, if you could get him in the mid 30's, be a cracking bit of business!

I think we are more in the hunt for younger players that will have a sell on value.

Hernandez is 29 I believe, there's no way Our Daniel is going to pay north of £15M for him.

I would have preferred Defoe TBH.

Yeah, I guess it depends what Hernandez goes for, if its sub £15 million though, WHU have got themselves a good deal imho! Would have taken Defoe back too.... good to share the talent around though, makes the league good!

Didn't Defoe get a big salary deal at Bournemouth?

Enormous I believe. There was now way we would have signed him but i'm just saying that i'd rather Defoe than the Mexican chap

A good article and one I agree with. Only fickle fans delight in marquee signings . I'm not particularly bothered if we don't sign anyone.

Nothing like a bit of the old Spurs self denial.

So many people saying "Not really that bothered about signing anyone", I bet you'd all be crowing from the rooftops if we signed Bale next week! biggrin

Personally I think if we want to challenge for the top place and have a good run in the CL, we could do with strengthening up the squad in a few places and add at least one decent game changer to the team. The difference between us and Chelsea last year was that they had 2-3 more proven match winners in the team where we didn't.

Plus this year, all the other teams around us are going to town with transfers, if we stay exactly as good as we were last year, in real terms we'll have gone backwards as other teams strengthen up. Getting a few players back from injury ain't good enough, we need to be more ambitious than that.

You've said it yourself Hazard, Costa, Pedro, Willan. Just those first two absolutely destroyed us when they came on in the FA cup semi. Apart from Kane, we don't have game changers of similar quality. Alli has shown huge promise and he'll probably reach that level if he continues to improve the way he has but he's not there yet, he has another year or two to go and a few decent runs in CL or International football before I'd consider him to be at that level and sorry but Son isn't in the same league. Yes he's popped up with a few match winners but again not proven anything at the very top level and he's far too inconsistent to be considered in the same breath as Hazard or Costa.

Don't get me wrong, we have a very good first 11 but apart from Kane, we don't have any proven superstars and nearly every championship winning team has had at least 2-3 exceptional AND proven players. We won't mention Leicester as that was a fluke, they just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

Spurs haven't been short of 1 or 2 superstars in their day, Hoddle, Gazza, Ginola, Bale, it's just a shame that right when we have one of the strongest squads we've had in a very long time, we don't appear to have that final star ingredient who'd take us over the edge. Sod being tight Levy, now is the time to get your wallet out and get us a match winner.

The problem we will have is attracting a player who is good enough to be guaranteed a starting place. Who can we upgrade from the best 11? Probably no one. So you are now trying to attract players who are happy to compete with others for a starting place or be happy on the bench, playing less games. Who at the top of their game will want that? Unless you pay them stupid money.

So we aren't going to buy any players at their peak. Only though with potential.

All stats we bettered Chelsea....except for the one that really counts where we came second. Not putting down our achievement by any means, for the money we spend we do bloody brilliant but I'd still say we have less proven match winners then Chelsea, that's just logic otherwise we would have been champions last year instead of them.

Sure Eriksen, Alli and Kane would be pretty hard to replace unless you were looking to spend £80m+ but Dembele and Wanyama are decent enough players although certainly not world class in my book. Other clubs are spending big, you can't argue they haven't strengthened their squads with some of their signings. If we want to keep up we need to strengthen too, If we want to improve on last years result, we need to get the cheque book out.
