Not quite as comfortable as the first half suggested it would be. How long before a bitter Ajax fan turns up ??
Well I guess I don't want to dissapoint you.Obviously too bad that Ajax, who lead the entire group phase, made the most goals and conceded fewer goals than Chelsea and Valencia, in the end became only third. But based on the past few weeks, it is not even that unexpected. Two losses at home in a row and a couple of injuries.
In addition, the two games against Chelsea ddin't deliver enough points for us. With the ref and his never seen two red cards and a penalty in one go, as the high point. Valencia was probably a bit lucky that it played their 1st first game in the group against a fairly new and then still somewhat searching Chelsea, and managed to get a win in Londonograd. And Lille reportedly got a bit too little in the games against Valencia.
So all in all a pity that a fairly moderate Valencia and a club that was (somewhat) penalized by UEFA manage to go through. Chelsea funny enough thanks the same reason that they were actually penalized for: a large army of bought and (previously) rented out talent.
The margins are slim sometimes.
Bitter enough ?

3 relatively equally matched teams & a whipping boy in the group. It was always going to be tight & most teams go through on 10 points. Hard on Ajax but that's the way it goes.Obviously too bad that Ajax, who lead the entire group phase, made the most goals and conceded fewer goals than Chelsea and Valencia, in the end became only third. They've all been champions of their country numerous times over the last 30 years except Leipzig.
And they will be as big a threat as any, youre playing a team now not a team who won the league 20 years agoGassing Station | Football | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
