How old is Lukaku now? Maybe you need an upcoming to build around. Or a smart recruit.

There has been some bad luck with injuries which hasn’t helped. Sometimes it’s felt like players & the team were just hitting their stride when injury has struck.. Look at the squad & Werner, Zieyech, Pulisic, Lukaku, Havertz, Kanye, Kovacic, Chilwell, James have all had long stretches out injured.

So you need a bit less bad luck with injuries, not 15 new players?

Recurit 1 or 2 good players (1 because Rudiger is off) and you will be top 3 again IMO
I was never suggesting 15 new players….

…look at this years squad…

Goalkeepers… no change needed
Defence….. Rudi gone, cowardly lion gone, Apzi (probably gone), Alonso (possibly gone) Starr (not good enough) Silva (can’t play every game) - so probably needs 4 replacements minimum
Midfield ….. Kante (injury prone for last couple of seasons), Barkley (not good enough), RLC (too inconsistent), Saul (not good enough) - CG back from Palace - still need 2 replacements
Forwards…… let one of Zieych or Pulisic go & replace with Broja.

This would still leave you without cover for James & Chilwell, but picking the right defensive replacements could do this. The team would still lack & truly creative player to put through Lukaku as say a Fabregas could.

Tuchal has his work cut out to rebuild the defensive line, but the problem has ultimately been scoring the goals thus causing tight games when we have dominated possession. Too many silly draws in these games is really the difference between Chelsea & Scouse/City. Chelsea this season have been best of the rest….. but is that enough?

Is it that we didn’t use him right, or that his head wasn’t/isn’t in the right place?
Probably a bit of both.

I do have concerns how good TT will be at rebuilding a defence.

It might have to be whist the onership issue is resolved, and new owner beds in.

Many teams would love to have your problems - loads of players on loan you can recall (yes you might have to develop them rather than just throw money at established players), and the core of a good team. Plius decent manager and rich owners.

In terms of finding replacements, the players leaving are probably on big wages means so you can replace with good offers, established "big" club, CL qualified, "glamour" location for foreign players (at least vs Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle) etc

What's happened to Pulisic. A while back he looked like the new Hazard. Now he's just a hazard to my health.

He’s not been right since he was injured in the FA cup final a couple of years ago. It doesn’t look like he’s ever going to regain that form.

Same Chelsea tonight as last 2 seasons
Toothless possession but now with a shonky defence that will only get worse next season
Need some fresh blood and some confidence on the ball to attack the flanks and cut back in from far deeper

Well seasons now over......

3rd is a fair enough finish. Taking the high points it could be seen as a good season, but ultimately nowhere near consistent enough or creative enough when it mattered. The Abramovich saga had to have taken a toll over the last couple of months.

Highpoints...the 1st 80mins in the Bernabau,

Low points.... the dire draws (Manchester united twice, Brighton twice), chilwells injury, the dire 1st leg against Madrid.

Hopefully the new owners deal will go through in the next week or so & Tuchal can get the players he wants. There is something missing in this current group & it's hard to put a finger on it, but watching city yesterday, you can start to see the differences. The pace of play is higher; the ball is moved forward much quicker (much less side to side); the precision of the passing is far higher (its a basic but our passing is frequently very poor when it comes to allowing the recipient to move forward).

I've said what i think about squad changes & i do think they need to be extensive if we are to compete next year.

I think RJ was a bigger miss than Chilwell, chilly was gaining form in the system, he didn't start the season until 6 games in.

This is the next test for TT, rebuild around 3/4 players coming in.

So the deal is all but done and the chat on talksport is a £200m warchest to strengthen for next season. Which ain't enough for us to become league winners, given the opposition and the need for top quality CB and forwards (which of course we have an awesome record of signing rofl)

£200m warchest? For one transfer window? Thats almost ‘living on a shoestring’ territory.

I assume that's just the budget to set up the GoFundMe page.

and I wonder if that warchest is inclusive or exclusive of revenues from outbound transfer deals already signed....

Sounded to me like they were alluding it's additional - not that I can see us making much revenue out of players sales this season, who would we sell? Saul? Lukaku? Werner? Dave? Not a huge amount with so much depreciation there

Still needing to buy success like the northern lot. Don’t you think TT is good enough to improve most of what you already have?
