Hi all,

We're off to Florida in October - dates will be Saturday September 30 to Saturday October 14, to be exact.

At the moment, the cheapest flights are around £556 pp with Norwegian from Gatwick to Orlando International.

Is this likely to get any cheaper nearer the time? It seems more expensive than in recent years but I suppose Brexit has had an effect on things.

Should I wait or just go with it?

Many thanks!

Yep, however those prices don't include luggage - you have to add that on afterwards.

Problem you will have for your dates is that they are around half term holidays so doubt you will get them much cheaper if at all.

I travel to Orlando often, and the mid-£500 is about the going rate.

Watch out for End of Summer sales which usually start early September if you want to risk it last minute.

Generally speaking seat prices drift upwards as availability diminishes though.

Yep and more so because the Scots take a 2 week half term that is normally these two weeks. When we went for these same weeks in 2013, the plane seemed to be largely Scots and was certainly full. So it may be you get less discounting than other times

Seems pretty reasonable to me. You can do Fort Lauderdale for about £480 each with BA which includes the baggage but it's a 3hr drive up to Orlando

We usually fly BA with hire car. Ford Focus or similar for around £1200 all in for the fortnight

Always buy in the sales, price is generally higher the later you leave it to the point of insanity some times, have been caught out before and paid £1550 for the same deal

We just booked for July with BA who seemed to reduce prices in reaction to the recent Virgin sale.

Edinburgh - Gatwick - Orlando and miles cheaper than anything from even Manchester or the holiday airlines.

we're going a week or so before you for 17 days and the flights are currently hovering @ 430.

Our concern at this point is to see if #1 son and #1 daughter can run us there and back (there is an advantage to having adult kids!), or if it's just a lot less hassle to do the whole park and ride/purple parking/B&B&park thing...

My brother in law and family flew last half term and the virgin plane was deserted the stewardess said it's quite normal at the moment due to fall in the pound, Disneyland costs were outrageous.

Yeah, Norwegian is a budget carrier so prices generally drift up as it gets closer to the flight. Have you tried flights to FLL and MIA as well? There can be considerable variance but, as said, you won't see dropping prices with a budget carrier.

You have to be careful in the off-peak with Virgin if you fly on a day when they schedule two flights as they often merge them. So you might think it's a quiet time but suddenly instead of two half-empty planes they've got one that's pretty full and the price for any available seats shoots up.

We've been lots of times and I'd say if you can get flights in the £500 range then grab them. They can't come down much as a lot of the price is taxes. However they could go up a lot. We went early Nov 16 and ended up paying £1000 each PE, but we only went PE as it wasn't much dearer than Economy.

I've not been for a few years, but have heard the prices have increased three fold in Dinseyworld (still follow lots of the forums and pages).

When we were going regular, 2008 to 2011 we used to pay about £600 with Virgin, I went a few times connecting in Miami with American Airlines and it was about £500.

Best was when I booked for myself to meet the family over there last minute, I booked the Wednesday and flew the Friday, I paid £189 with Thomson at the time and it included case & meal, wouldn't recommend if your travelling with family leaving it that late though!!

Just had a look and flying out from London to orlando in September is less than £500

Cost of the flight per person is cheap it's the tax etc that increases the costs

September's cheap because there aren't any school holidays. In October the price gradually creeps up and up until it maxes out around half term. I think last time we paid £750/each with Thomson.

There were some deals for Orlando flights on Holiday Pirates earlier this week, not sure on timings but likely to be off peak - may get lucky?

Also people use to avoid Sept due to Hurricane risk although they've been less frequent in recent years.

Looking at Virgin flights from Manchester the headline price for Sept is a little under £500 for some dates but then it's offering a flight with a stop on the way home. Pick the direct flight and the cost jumps up.

Try netflights, we booked through them last week for Virgin flights and saved 8% against going direct, and had our reference numbers to log into the VA website within hours so no downside against booking direct it seems.

Prices seem all over the place, we booked last week as theyd climbed on the week previously, now theyre up a further 10% on that this week, direct from Glasgow at end of October so not during school hols or at a peak period.

Eta paid £505 which I thought good looking back at what we paid in previous years.
