Changes to Sky Sports on BT TV

My father has a BT contract for his TV and Broadband which also includes Sky Sports 1 and 2. The TV and Broadband were renewed (not a new customer) in December but the Sky has always been a rolling 30 day contract but he has ALWAYS had it and never once cancelled it.
Sky are changing the mix of channels and he will now get different channels. The new channels show Premeir league but not Championship and he supports Sunderland.
He renewed his contract in December so is officially locked in for another 11 months but the offer is so different now, I think he should challenge to cancel the contract. Has anybody spoken to BT and know what their response is (I can guess knowing BT!).
He is a bit 'timid' and doesnt like complaining so I'm trying to get the low down for him.

I can't really help with the contract issue but I only have the Skysports package, any match that isn't on Sky which I really want to see I just use Twitter to find a stream.
He's old and it needs to be easy for him. He wouldn't know how to find twitter let alone use Kodi or similar.
