New TVR Griffith: first breath!

First dynamic footage of the car following its Revival launch

When TVR unveiled the new Griffith at Goodwood earlier this month the resulting story garnered over 1,000 comments on our PH alone. So, with PistonHeads being the spiritual home of all things TVR, we just had to share this new footage of the Griffith on the move.

The clip is quite short, with TVR boss Les Edgar behind the wheel in what appears to be the Gordon Murray Design carpark. A little dab of the throttle results in a number of expletives from Les and passenger John Chasey as the car kicks out and the thunderous, Cosworth fettled, 500hp V8 snarls through the side exit exhausts. Seems like a proper TVR then!

Watch the short video here and let us know what you think below!

Two refreshing comments on the performance... 'SH*T!' and 'F*CKING HELL!'.

Love it.

Can't figure out if the wheel is on at an angle or if they are actually driving on a curve. The view out the window makes it look like they are travelling in a straight line, but the mark at the 'top' of the wheel is at -10deg or there abouts.

So traction control on, straight line and cannot handle the power? Sounds EXACTLY like TVRs of old. biggrin

Won't it be great if this inspires Ferrari, etc, etc to design a light car again..

Looks cramped inside and a struggle to get out - but then Les is a bit lardy!

LES is a giant.. looks like way more room than my 'old' Griffith... frown

(which I'm keeping, maybe I should also save up for the set?)

Les says at the end "I can confirm that it needs the traction control on". So it must have been switched off for this.

It does look great on the move and those plain black wheels are less jarring in appearance than the reveal wheels. I really want to see it on some normal silver color wheels though. Not a fan of black wheels on anything. Seeing it on updated shadow chrome spiders would really set it off! Arguably one of the best wheels designs around, and about the only common TVR design que there's ever been.

I thought he said, "I can confirm the traction control is on". My comment wasn't a negative - reminds me of Cerberas snaking down the road in the slightest of showers. I used to live on the route to a TVR dealer and regularly saw low loaders with scrunched TVRs on the back. You knew exactly what happened just before they got the facelift, too...the owner wanted to hear his engine so gave it a little tickle... wink

As an ex Griffith 500 owner that always lusted after a Sag, I can definitely say I would have one of these...

Good job (new) TVR...

Les looked genuinely surprised and delighted at that, brilliant. He's either a great actor or he really hasn't spent any time in it already.
Just imagine the head of Porsche in a new model of his, more measured reactions I'd think there.
When Les shut the door it sounded very TVR, although the tick over sounded more cement mixer, hopefully dodgy acoustics.
