I suppose if he could somehow keep his arms straight it would add momentum to the throw, but he forgot that part.

Very interesting stats for the Russian team

Home advantage...........or something else?

Discuss
Let's see what they do in their next game. If it's another convincing win with more stat busting figures then you have to suspect something.
Like in Sochi, the Russians will be doing everything possible to get an advantage. I would expect they have tried cheating to get the Tournament, to get an easy group, to sway the officials and state run doping to help the players.

There’s a limit in football how much doping will help. It improves fitness and recovery but it can’t really improve the teams skills.

Despite this, I’m impressed with their running of the tournament, they’ve shut down hooliganism completely and are showing Russia to the world in a very favourable light.

I have been to Moscow twice over the years and found it a cool place to go I really enjoyed it. Of course they have ultras in their hooligan groups and the leader of their country is a nut case, but nothing different to here really!

What was he thinking?

One of my teammates was taking throws like this 20 years ago (although he managed to do it properly). Any throw-in in the opponents half and he would launch it into the penalty area. Apart from on grounds where the railings were 3 feet from the edge of the pitch hehe

The Russian team hasn't been involved with competitive football matches since the Euros. All their losses have been friendlies. Its not unusual to see a dip in form for friendlies, and world rankings only go down if your not playing competitive matches.

Russia has talented footballers, some playing in with European teams. many played in European football competitions such as CL and EL. I'd expect them to be a top twenty team in the world. I'd expect them to beat Egypt and Saudi Arabia no matter what their recent friendly form is, in a world cup held in their own country, with their fans right behind them.

Their players play in international leagues and cup competitions. If they are doing something to enhance their performance, this would be tested and exposed.

many host nations outplay their form. I think it was only South Africa that hasn't done it.

I think that’s very unlikely.

Russia has been involved in state run doping since the 60s they’ve only really been caught properly in Sochi. If they aren’t doping it would be the first time in their sporting history.

That’s probably why they’ve been keeping their heads down recently, to avoid testing.

Never been to Iceland but it looks like a spectacularly beautiful country.
You should go, it's an incredible place.
I second that. It's lovely. Also as an added bonus I think there's a few people there you haven't told you work with Yeovil. smile

He's started his run up from the wrong place and ended up ready to throw the ball in, but miles back from the touchline IMO.

That was a great setup but Denmark and a great finish by Eriksen. Denmark are looking pretty good, much more comfy on the ball than the Aussies.

Ball touched arm/hand? Yes.

Intentional? Never.

Penalty? How could he have prevented that?

His arms were outstretched and he did stop the ball from hitting the target.

I would have wanted a penalty. The yellow was a bit harsh.

Decent goal that from Eriksen - just seen it. Annoyed I didn't put him in my FF team; also annoyed that Schmeichel who I did's conceded.

Think that was the 12th pen of the WC, so 61% of games have had a pen (allowing for this being 50% of a game so far).

That was a difficult shot made look easy by Eriksen - take a bow young man.

That penalty - VAR nightmare. Falls into the 'seen them given category'. This is where VAR is a nightmare for the refs. In 'grey' decisions like these, its 100% certain that one of the teams is going to be very unhappy with the decision. I can see why it was a penalty but if it was me or my team mate did that, I would be crying about a total injustice.
