Hi,

Been caught speeding. 31 in a 20. I know I shouldn't have been but I'm a little frustrated.

Got the notice through the post today 22/11. Was caught speeding on the 24/8

I have a company car so letter went to them first. They received on 5/9 and sent my details through. So thats over 2 months before I receive notice.

Is there anything I can do or will I have to just pay it and take the points?

I'm not sure on what basis you're thinking you could contest the ticket but if it's due to the time between offence and receiving the ticket, I believe you can contest if outside a 6 month period, so you're well within 'suck it up' range I'm afraid.

You haven't got a prayer of getting out of anything.

Those roads are 20 for a reason, most of the time they're around schools and residential areas (unless you live in London). Caught by a camera or a van I presume?

Which is fine, but the road will have been a 30 a year ago and we had the least unsafe roads in the world even then and, unless I've missed some significant news, the relevant laws of physics haven't changed in that time.

He's gone from law abiding citizen (well, 1mph over the old limit but close enough) to child endangering scum without actually presenting more of a danger to himself or others than he did before the limit was changed.

We have usage roads because people exceed reasonable speed limits.

There is a black-ringed 20 limit around near me, so advisory, so I drive to the conditions and always below 30.

However: fines are likely to be

Band A

3 points and a penalty of around 50% (between 25% and 75%) of your weekly income, applies to the lowest level of speeding offence:

21 to 30mph in a 20 limit

Band B

4-6 points or 7-28 days disqualification and a penalty of around 100% (between 75% and 125%) of your weekly income, applies to more serious offences:

31 to 40mph in a 20 limit

OUCH !

Incorrect.

31/20 mph is a Speed Awareness Course. Otherwise, a £100 fixed penalty with 3 penalty points.

Band A-C fines only apply if court proceedings are commenced - which does not happen if the offender fulfils the eligibility criteria for a course or fixed penalty.

Yes they are 20 for a reason and that reason is to rip off as many honest people as they can. Parasites.

So correct then, for fines!

Can you take a photo of the ticket and post it on here (remove your personal details). It’d be interesting to see a ticket for 31, even if it was in a 20 limit.

Your reply was qualified with 'likely to be ... [a fine]' when in fact a fine is the least likely outcome. Overall, an unhelpful contribution.

I said "fines are likely to be xxx"
I did NOT say "there is likely to be a fine"
There is a difference.

You are slipping Loon,

You forgot to add you will pay £100.00 to a charity of his choice (if ticket is correct) because you don't believe him.

You failed to mention a course or fixed penalty. Those are the two most likely outcomes. Why address only the least likely outcome? Probably because you read something on the internet and didn’t understand it.

Not far from me the council spent loads installing a 20 limit near a school. The school had been there since the 60s.

Within 18 months, the school has closed. They must have been planning to close the school for years as intakes were stopped. . Money well spent!

Some may deal in the probable. I would prefer to think about possible.
Glass half full is a fine approach if it is not your glass, and you are not paying the bar tab.
