The Official Manchester United Thread [vol 7]
Discussion
Well its mostly about fitness, but some of the first team coming back wont be ready for the first game or two also, so the backups need to be playing well by then. They aren't right now, especially in defense, but I'm sure we will be fielding a stronger eleven by the 9th for Leicester, though, especially if we can get some deals over the line - both in and out.
Thing is these preseason tours are also about representing the club and winning new fans. There is no way on earth performances like this are doing that - and there's only one person responsible there. JM moaned about the preseason before it started, and he's right, but you have to also be responsible for the club and nights like this do bring that into question. Sure he will front up after the game again and be miserable all while thinking its proving him right, but it's not helping at all.
Still, tasty free kick by Pereira who is the shining light so far. Amazing what a loan can do ()
late edit just to add, some of JM's comments after the game are fking awful for a manager of this club. He needs to be really careful or he will have another mutiny on his hands, however right the comments may be.

I suspect he's already got a mutiny on his hands, how else do you explain the most expensively assembled squad in history playing such consistently poor standard of football?Edited by bstb3 on Sunday 29th July 00:52

I'm confused because the expensively assembled players he bought didn't play other than Sanchez. Bailey came on as Smalling is injured. The teams he's played on tour are not his, it's youth. On an actually worrying note , Matic has had surgery and will miss the start of the season. Valencia is injured and was in poor shape according to Jose. The new right back is out, Darmian is leaving. Martial isn't training as he's home. We are going to have to dig deep for the 10th August to even put a team together as none of them will have played a game at this rate. Possibly our worst set of circumstances pre season I've seen and the worst possible prep. Players will be tired from WC duty if not injured.
Player scores from the game for the obviously hardof understanding..
Man Utd: Grant (6), Darmian (6), Fosu-Mensah (6), Bailly (7), Tuanzebe (6), Mitchell (5), McTominay (5), Herrera (5), Pereira (7), Mata (6), Sanchez (6)
Subs Pereira (6), Williams (6), Chong (6), Fred (6), Gomes (6),
Now which ones of that lot would actually train together and play together as an actual team under any system?

Oh come on, Most of these players would be training day in day out with each other .Man Utd: Grant (6), Darmian (6), Fosu-Mensah (6), Bailly (7), Tuanzebe (6), Mitchell (5), McTominay (5), Herrera (5), Pereira (7), Mata (6), Sanchez (6)

I accept it's a very below par team but they should have some idea how to play Jose's system.
101,000 spectators bought tickets for this game & they really should have expected United to show a bit more .

Ease up fella, not my fault you got a good grubbing.
You mean it's not your fault our mixed bag of 2nd and 3rd string players thrown together with a few regulars didn't play as a team against a much stronger Liverpool team in a pre season friendly that meant sod all?Worryingly for actual Utd fans as opposed to fans of other teams is the fact we have picked up some significant injuries such as Matic and Valencia and the actual first team haven't played any games together. At least Fred was included later on.

You really do talk bull. Training with each other equates to playing as a team? I accept it's a very below par team but they should have some idea how to play Jose's system.

Why do you have first and second team squads if you just need to train together to make the magic happen?
This is unfortunately what you get when a lashed up pre season tour follows a world cup.
I'm actually more concerned by the amount of injuries and that we had Sanchez as the sole striker. If lukaku gets injured at present we are screwed.

Well at least you have 10 more days to buy some more footballers as these underlings are clearly not good enough.
Just remind me what you lot are doing and expect..anything positive or just more of the same as per every year? Oh that's right, a new stadium trophy. It's actual Utd fans who will be concerned, purely that the pre season hasn't really been one for the actual first team. We'll not get going till September I guess.

Well we are all in the same boat sir , My team are without around 8 regular first team starters but you have to make the most of what you have got.Why do you have first and second team squads if you just need to train together to make the magic happen?

If the 2nd or 3rd string players cannot Gel with the senior players then surely there must be something wrong at united.
As for our lot , i really cannot see us bringing anyone in unless we offload Alderwireld tbh.
I'd like Zaha to come but tbh i'm pretty happy with what we have got but our expectations are far less than Utd's
Maybe there is something wring at UTD. I suspect like many it's a hangover from the squad assembled by LVG and moyes, which lashed up the remains of the aging Fergie squad.
Rebuilding takes years, and chucking another manager at it won't fix it nor will money alone.
Jose clearly wanted new blood and as yet hasn't got it. We have Fred, and an injured right back. Not exactly thrilling given we are almost certainly going to be using Young, Jones, Darmian, martial and rashford next week when we start the campaign. We'll pretty much be playing the same formation and team we ended up with last season and even if a couple of new players come in there won't have been any actual pre season for them all.
Perfect storm imho and I'm not suprised by last night at All, and I won't be suprised if Real and Bayern paste us also.

Jose likes to moan pre season to get some action from Woodward. But he’s also singling our players for criticism, which is never good, no matter how much truth there is in his statements.
The same approach and style of play is not going to cut it, but it seems like that’s where we are heading. Not good.

Yes I'm usually optimistic but can't be at the mo. Other than Fred we haven't kicked on, and he's got no time to settle in with Pogba before we start. Lukaku looked sharp tho at the WC and if we can get going forward better we should be ok unless he gets crocked early on.The same approach and style of play is not going to cut it, but it seems like that’s where we are heading. I think the clear out we all know is needed and a refresh is way too slow and late this season, with the shortened transfer window. I'll be more hopeful if we get another attacker on the right side and push on with moving Darmian etc along. Not sure we'll get McGuire or a top defender or if even needed but next week could be busy perhaps
