I think VAR could be useful BUT

1) It's only to be used in certain defined circumstances, i.e. when play has naturally stopped anyway or where the referee is just not sure i.e. maybe about 10% of the time.

2) When they do use it, they need to come to a decision a hell of a lot quicker, max limit should be 30 seconds. If they can't get a decision in that time, the ref decides.

3) Should not be used for goals EVER. The decision of the ref or linesman should be final. Waiting 2-3 minutes to see if you can celebrate a goal will suck ALL the fun out of scoring and is a terrible idea.

There is no law that says you can't stop during the run up despite the feeling from a lot of supporters that such a law exists. Whether you call it a feint or a stop or a stutter or whatever, it was in the middle of the run up and Son was wrong to be cautioned IMO. The penalty should have been retaken due to encroachment.
I listened to the match on Radio 5 and Mark Schwarzer read out a regulation and said the referee was 100% correct.

I can't find said regulation but he was definitely reading it rather than ad libbing.

And if the VAR system is going to penalise the first goal then pretty much every corner kick in every game is going to become an issue due to the amount of shirt pulling and bear hugging that goes on.
The referee has the call on that - if he see's it as unsporting which his was then he can caution and not award another penalty

Feinting its self is not illegal unless done like last night, when he fking stopped, got out a pint downed it then decided to shoot laugh

Regarding offside...

What is going to happen when a ball is played through near the half way line with the player still having some distance to go to goal and the lino flags?

Does the referee allow play to continue to see if the striker scores and then refer it to VAR? All during which fans will barely bother celebrating as no one will know whether it's a goal.

Or does the referee stop the game because at point because he is able to blow his whistle before the player is in a goal scoring position?

Llorente's first goal, there was millimetres in it, his knee cap may well have even been offside like what we saw with Mata.

VAR reviewed it in a matter of seconds supposedly. I suspect they were given a polite word to hurry the fk up.

4) The stadium announcer (or the ref) explains why the decision was investigated and what the outcome was

I don't think we should have VAR at all. Hate it. But if you do have it, then not using it for goals is crazy. What's the point in having VAR is an attacker can punch the ball into the net and the ref not be able to look at VAR when all the defenders are screaming for handball?

Bookies are tipping Arsenal to beat Man City on Thursday.

Largely because the gunners have had an extra few days rest whilst City played in a Cup Final on Sunday.

Haven't seen a single argument in favour of VAR that will be bale to keep the atmosphere that makes football stand out amongst the other video assisted sports.

The only thing I can think of is giving the referee a flag like NFL so we know it's going to video the next time play stops.

Show the replays on the big screens would help.
