Football is vastly more taxing than it used to be. Players sprint faster, turn faster, jump higher - everything. Comparing playing now to playing back when players were fat and/or weak and/or hungover is just silly. The physical demands are much higher.
They are, but the medical science and the quality of the pitches is so far ahead nowadays. Not to mention physio, recovery, ahem, supplements...Also a good point re pitches.
But I still think we underestimate how hard it is to play 3 matches over 10 days or so.

I thought I should not respond to his comment about only supporting Liverpool due to being a glory hunter, but decided I might as well point out I was born in 1987. Not sure the mid-late 90's were full of glory for us.
I wonder which club he supported before 2003 though?
Sadly I started in the 70’s so have been glory hunting for 40 years I wonder which club he supported before 2003 though?

Probably wasn't born before 2003...I wonder which club he supported before 2003 though?
Nobody can deny that Liverpool's huge global following is mainly due to the success they had in the 70's & 80's & deservedly so, they were a fantastic side for well over 15 years or so.
I live down south & south of the River & i reckon i see more Liverpool & Man utd shirts than any London club,
Obviously when you drive through Tottenham & Islington it's a little different.

hi
scottish football fan here
I'd be keen to hear your thoughts on the talk about Gerrard for the position of rangers manager
just media speculation or is there something in it ?
It's no secret that he wants to manage Liverpool eventually. If he wants to do that he'll need to leave our U18s at some point and go and manage elsewhere, Rangers would probably be a good option for him, I don't think he has much to lose. scottish football fan here

But do you want him? I've no idea how good/bad your alternative options are and I've no idea how good a manager he would be. Would be a risk, but how much I don't know.
Somebody of his standing would be good for the image of the scottish game i think.
However, I'm not sure how much of the rangers story is printed UK wide but they seem to be badly managed from top to bottom. Derek McInnes (Aberdeen manager) had a look behind the scenes and turned down the job. Would Gerrard risk his reputation?
The cynical side of me thinks it's just another media fantasy story at a time when rangers are trying to sell season books.
