Car ballast

Need to put some ballast in my car, have never had to do this before. Can anyone drop some pics of how they have mounted theirs for some inspiration. I have two rails welded into the passenger side but have never used use those. figuring I could use these as the mounts for the plates.

These are the relevant sections from the Blue Book.

5.15.2. Any ballast required must be attached to the
shell/chassis via at least 4 mounting points using bolts
with a minimum diameter of 8mm each with steel
counter plates of at least 400 sq mm surface area and
3mm thickness.

5.15.3. Provision must be made for the fixation of seals
by scrutineers if deemed necessary.

5.15.4. Where ballast is fitted to touring, sports, sports
racing or GT cars it shall be fitted in the passenger’s
location.

Mine is 20kg of lead plate sandwiched between 3mm steel plates. One on top of the stack and one underneath the car. There are then five M10 bolts pulling it all together through the floor of the car where the passenger seat used to be.

Yep, just follow the MSA regs. Mine is in using the pax seat mounting holes.

Worth reading the regs for the series you're in - a lot of them have specific locations in them.

I'm no expert, and if it's passed in the past then I'm always happy to run with it.

But are the 'penny' washers suitable in size. Sure it said somewhere in the regs something about 4cm sq retaining plate...

Do those measure up...??

I quoted the regs in the 2nd post above. The washers would need to be 3mm thick as well to be legal. That's about twice as thick as the average penny washer.

Like many things though a lot of scrutineers don't check. I've seen people racing with old toolboxes bolted to the floor full of lead pipe with a cable tie holding it closed...
