One thing 'is' for certain, the Spanish are sure to provide us with a world class display of acting. They'll rolling around on the floor clutching their shins from the merest glance of a passing England player's sock fibre.

I just hope the ref isn't easily duped.
And we'll have numerous players who will almost certainly do the same. Modern football for you.
Gone are the days when you could blame the Spanish for acting. It’s seen week in, week out in the prem.

Most footballers have become experts in it.

See: Kane's penalty against Netherlands, or Bellingham whenever he gets tackled or makes a mistake in a challenge. I hate it but it has truly become a tactic for players

And not many of us will complain if a dive from any of our players results in the winning goal.

Not Euro related but watched the 1966 cup final yesterday on channel 4 ( in colour) . One thing that struck me was how many chances England had to kill the game in normal time and in extra time when winning. Was ‘ game management’ ( time wasting ) not invented in those days ! Before Germany equalised in the last kick in normal time, we had several opportunities to run the ball into the corner but still chose not to. Really enjoyed the game without all the stop / start stuff that happens in the modern game. Player gets kicked up in the air- just gets up and away we go again. Thank god for no Var ( or goal line technology!!!)

I believe Kane was genuinely hurt in that contact. That doesn't mean I think it was a penalty though.

Our guys dive like the rest but they aren't as blatant as the Spanish, Brazilians or Argentinians seem to be.
I sometimes wonder what professional rugby players think when they see these lightweights rolling around on the floor after such minimal contact.

Yes, I watched that and thought the same, Alan Ball got hacked down and simply jumped up and took the free kick, so refreshing. Mind you, I also noticed how often we gave the ball away with hopeful passes or simply kicking into a space and there being no one there to receive it. Geoff Hurst's 4th goal was still a cracker, modern footballer would have dribbled to the corner flag!

Yes, I was also struck by how poor and slow the attacking play was. I kind of get the feeling a modern team with a modern football etc would beat that 1966 team about 10-0 laugh

Saw it live yikes but had forgotten (a) how good the Germans were and (b) how good Roger Hunt was.

Sunderland boy that’s why.
Strictly speaking, Washington. He's also possibly the thickest footballer I've ever seen interviewed but clearly he loves the England shirt.

No diving,no faking injury,no claiming for decisions that were obviously not yours....apart from that goal obviously biggrin.....no timewasting, hardly any sideways backwards passing to keep possession, always looking to pass forward,it was like a completely different sport.
The only similarity was the ref was as crap as they are today smile

Other matches were different. Argentina for example had a big reputation for dirty play and feigning injury back then.

The most telling view on this was from the touchline, where you see the Dutch player flying in with his leg high and studs exposed.

That's true, I think Bobby Charlton said he was often spat at so Nobby Styles kicked the bloke around the park.

It obviously means a lot to Kane. He said he’d swap all of the other trophies he’s won for this one.
