Racism is definitely a problem but let's also remember that people, regardless of their colour, are sometimes just not very likable, or are likable.

Lewis Hamilton and Raheem Stirling v Anthony Joshua and N'Golo Kante. 4 young, rich, successful black men, 2 or whom are unpopular and 2 that are liked.
But why isnt Raheem liked? whats he ever done wrong? i cant think of a thing.

I agree , Everyone I have ever listened to in the media says that Raheem is very curtious & polite young man . I know but he Liverpool fans aren’t his greatest of fans but for the rest of us I really struggle to see what’s not to like .

The move away from Liverpool to Man City for what many thought was mercenary reasons only.
The gun tattoo.
His indifferent performances in the WC.

Now I'm not saying I agree with those, but there are 3 things some people object to.

How well do you know any of them? What are you basing your view on? Wouldn’t be the press would it? Have a think about it.

Three "reasons" that in no way justify his treatment.

I'm a Liverpool fan and I don't hate raheem for leaving, yeah we'll boo him at anfield once a season because we want to unsettle him so he doesn't play well against us. Hardly an agenda, the people who have an agenda don't hate him because he left Liverpool.

So what exactly has Hamilton done to receive all the hate then?

As far as I can see neither have done anything that any other young sportsman hasn't done.

Few Tattoos, spend a bit of money (that they earned btw) and been largely successful in their field, with a few off days now and then

Anything else?

Apart from daring to be black in a public place?

What makes members of the press warm to someone and not someone else. Do they sit down and say "we've got 4 young rich black guys here, let's randomly split the into 2 camps, nice guys and not very nice guys"?

Or do members of the press react to how they personally are treated, or their colleagues, or from reports they get about their behaviour from others, they way they see them live their lives when they are reporting on them?

How well do you know John Terry? Do you like him, or do you think he is well liked?

Whether there's racism in the media or not, I can't really comment on that as I don't work in the industry or know the individuals personally. What I have seen over the years in the press is targeting players, sometimes rightly, sometimes wrongly irrespective of the colour of their skin.

I think Hamilton got some stick for his tax affairs regarding that jet and using the Isle of Man scheme, but then so do white celebrities get stick for tax avoidance....Is there any negative press about Kante? All I see from the media is how much they love him. So is it to do with the colour of their skin, or is it just on an individual basis that people are judge?

I just hope we don't get in a scenario where the media can't criticise black players through fear of being labelled racist.

You didn’t answer the question. How well do you know Hamilton, Sterling and the others you mentioned.

I love and hate Terry. I love him for being incapable of scoring from 12 yards against us, and I hate him for the Ferdinand incident.

Neville made points that I've said for years about black players, as did Durham on the radio. Talking about people in the media who single out and label Lukaku and Pogba as "lazy", are feeding racist stereotypes, he's right, because if he was genuinely lazy he'd be at home playing football on PlayStation not at Old Trafford.
I'm not old enough to remember the 70/80s but was Durham's point about black player being called lazy back then true?

Is this the PH equivalent of “I have a mate who’s black”?

This is the equivalent of "you're white so can't possibly comment on racism?"

I'm just questioning whether it is an agenda in the media against black players, or just the individuals involved. I mean, look at Jadon Sancho, he's getting all sorts of positive press at the moment. If he's caught doing laughing gas as Raheem was, I'm sure he'll be in for some stick too. Just as Jack Grealish, who is white did when he was caught too.

Lazy is an insult aimed at all manner of players who have a languid style of play. Often very talented, but not known for tracking back or charging around.

Players I've heard been called lazy in recent years include Pogba, Lukaku, Ozil, and Hazard. Before them Hoddle and Le Tissier. Further back, Rodney Marsh.

Yeah it was, "black boys were lazy and they couldn't play in the cold". I was a kid back then but even school teachers would peddle these racist stereotypes, they stuck for many years.

Kyle Walker was caught taking hippy crack on England duty. The press reported about it.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article...

Just as the press reported about Jack Grealish taking laughing gas or Rooney drinking till all hours at the Grove Hotel on England duty. They've had their spells of abuse from the media and fans. Of course it's predominantly white fans and white media so this abuse can't be anything to do with racism.

Durham said yesterday that the first thing people will do is deny that there's a problem with racism in the media and football.

Rofl all you like. You’ve still now answered the question.

Why did you pick Terry out as well? Why not any other white player? That’s says more about you than me I’m afraid.

By finding examples of black people who aren’t publicly subject to racism, doesn’t mean other black players are not subject to racism. There’s a logic fail.

Perhaps think of it as those that are the easiest targets are targeted - because not many want to be seen as overly racist in public.

But he won't name names. Why not publicly call them out?
