Looks like we can keep sofas in their normal position tomorrow lunchtime. Lovren out due to concussion.

Mane also still recovering and won't be available.

Be a really tough game this - 3 points would be a MASSIVE result, espcially as we play before City have to go to Chelsea

Absolutely massive. Bournemouth have goals in them so need to stay solid at the back.

If Milner plays tomorrrow, it will be his 500th premier league appearance and he will be second youngest ever to achieve that, at just 32.

I really think that City will get spanked 2 or 3 nil and that you'll ease through your game. I won't bet that way, as logic dictates it shouldn't happen, but City are due a rough game and I can't think of a better team to do it to them.

We've been missi g a top quality keeper for many years, dare I say the best since Brucey.

On Fekir though. As good as he is and he'd bring fantastic competition but who would you drop? I personally think his arrival would bring a little unrest to Salah/Mane. I think that transfer is dead after the failed medical. Is anyone else similar linked?
Reina? Hard to compare between generations but was Bruce actually that good? Clemence seems to be a more revered name but I've seen precious little of either.

Pulisic is a persistent rumour. Dembele has been mentioned. We've never replaced Coutinho. I thought Shaqiri would primarily go into the pool of players to rotate in the front 3 rather than midfield (having just done the best part of £120m in that area).

We're close to January so we'll soon find out where we're at. The Napoli game is big. Not sure how happy JW would be about getting dumped out in the group stages.
Reina was excellent until his last season with us. Bruce did it for 10 seasons or so, regular 1st choice and very agile. He was poor for the first season or so as he was thrown in when he wasn't really ready, as Clem left for Spurs.

Clem was an incredible keeper and very consistent, when excellent keepers were more common - Shilton, Parkes, Corrigan all vying for the England shirt at the same time.

Think you've got some rose tinted specs on about Bruce, he was certainly a great character and decent goalkeeper but he often made howlers that would make Karius blush. "Doing a Grobbelaar" was a thing long before "Doing a Karius".

I’d go with that, though Klopp may start Bobby instead of Shaq.

Not at all - I do remember he was seen as a bit eccentric. But they didn't feel the need to replace him for 10 years, during our most successful period, so that says something.

Sorry, brain fart. I took Gini out of your selection, leaving Fabinho, Milner and Keita as my midfield three.

I'm with Sye on the Alisson hyperbowl. The difference between keepers this season and last is night and day. Karius would've let a lot in some of the most basic shots, never mind the ones that had veered away from very middle of the goal. With us having so many games won by 1 it would have made a huge difference this season. Our defence wouldn't be looking as good as they are with an average keeper in the net.
Not fully true. Remember in the PL Karius kept the most clean sheets after Christmas I think it was (i.e. Post VvD). A lot of people who had been saying he was rubbish before were even making noises we didn't really need to look for a new keeper in the summer potentially. The the CL final happened and the rest is history. (This isn't saying Karius is a better keeper, just he was not as bad post-VvD as many make out. The key thing to me is VvD, not Alisson.) And of course Robo instead of defensive liability Moreno!

I also think Fernandinho may be one of the most under-the-radar players in the league. He is quality, week in, week out. That's the level Fabinho should be looking at. He still strolls about too much for me; makes me wonder about his engine.
He isn’t under the radar. Everyone knows how integral he is to how Man City can play, pretty much plays the same role Busquets does at barcelona.

I think MOTDeven done a segment on Fernandinho last week. Might have been another program if not.

There was a general feeling he'd turned a corner during the second half of last season. Having said that we're probably talking about a bottom half keeper scraping into the top 10 in the PL.

Even before the CL final you could reel off atleast 8 keepers in the prem that are significantly better.

And yet statistically I don't think that's the case. He had over 50% clean sheets that season, 0 errors leading to a goal etc (in the PL).

https://www.premierleague.com/players/19600/Loris-...

He was mainly a good shot stopper, but bad in coming out for the ball etc. And you never could trust him to not tune out. But I think the main thing is the defence improvement, combined with the "too defensive" midfield this season, which makes it even more tight back there. It's good we got Alisson as any improvement is needed, but I think it would have been a lot less bad as people make out, based on his PL stats with VvD. However, with confidence shot after CL final and the amount of abuse he would have got then it was best to move him on, as it'd likely affect him this year.

I think it's fair to say that 95% of the time, Karius was a very good goalkeeper. But Alisson is World Class keeper and the difference between very good and World Class is ten fold.

That's a line up we've not seen before! Interesting to see how Fab does at RB.
