In the short time I've been on this thread I've come to recognise certain fruitcakes and "exuberant" posters...life's rich tapestry and all that. Anyone left on the city thread ?

It is hard to decide which is the most distasteful method of funding a football club...

Relying on a rich sugar daddy (As utd have done in the past)

or

Being saddled with huge levels of debt and opening your legs to any and all commercial sponsors, affiliates and official partners who happen to wave a tenner in your direction, regardless of how hilariously obscure they happen to be. (As utd currently do)

Definitely the one that sticks the most fingers up to the rules. That one.

hehe

has a nice ring to it.

Just finished reading the 4 chapters of the Der Spiegel article on City. Verrrrrry interesting and utterly damning. Will be interesting to see where UEFA take this.

I doubt UEFA will do anything about City or PSG's dodgy dealings as it would appear UEFA were in collusion to guide them in the right direction.

The fact remains United are the second biggest spenders in the league and are sat in 8th with a goal difference 32 goals worse off than the leaders. Pep has spent the equivalent of the GDP of South America but when his signings have failed, he's booted them out the door and signed someone else.

Jose, under the Glazers, does not have that luxury and I personally think he's wasted a ton of cash on duds and he inherited a very poor squad with some players that are simply not good enough for a top half team in the Premiership, let alone one that has aspirations of challenging for titles and Champions Leagues. The likes of Darmian should have been let go but due to the contract he signed, he can sit it out on mega bucks until it's time to for free. The whole back line needs an overhaul and I was amazed to see Young being offered a 1 year extension. If he's not a squad player next season, then someone at United needs to take a good look at what is going on across the City.

Pep has the luxury of two players for each position. No other club in the league has that but when you're bankrolled by a country that can simply call on one of their brother's who owns another Emirate company to sponsor something, anything for an exorbitant amount of money, City will continue buying whoever they want and noone else will compete. I'm afraid the rest of the league will have to suck it up while until this current cycle is complete.

And that sums it up perfectly tbh. All other clubs are just playing at the edges presently looking for tit bits and scraps really.

And is that not generally the way it’s always been?

Not sure what you mean. Currently city are in the ascendancy and the rest are picking at bits. Previously for 20yrs it was Utd, and Liverpool prior so yes if you mean there has generally been an outright leading club per decade or so.
The last prob ten years have been the most open in terms of a few clubs can win it right upto the point Pep got bedded in right and was given unlimited funds to tinker with. It now looks like his only challenge really now is can he with the CL with them.

Some fantastic responses on here, loving it.

You all seem to have moved on from the 'denial' and 'anger' and 'depression' stages and are now at 'acceptance'.

That's really good progress, well done.

They don’t give a st about stuff like that. Turn a blind eye and all that.

Mansour and his cronies just silence you if you have the audacity to stand up for things like human rights.

Mansour’s been to one game in the ten years he’s owned City so it’s not like he’s a fan. It’s about flying people to Dubai to spend their dollars on cheap gold and protecting their reputation at all costs including threatening UEFA over their FFP stance.

And BCM calls United an abhorrent club. rolleyes

It’s about time you had the moral compass to go through the same processes with your cheating club honey.

You just need to move on now lol and rejoin society :-)

Luckily we were at "acceptance" a couple of seasons ago, thankfully we have tradition, history, fan base and genuine INCOME to ensure that at some point we will once again be competing for the league. Some clubs will never have and never had that behind them, and never have the chance to see their team being successful...

So talk of Jose getting £100M in the January window with a few players possibly leaving Rojo, Bailly being mentioned. We know that the value isn't really there in the January window but due to the transfer fees of recent purchases of the likes of Neymar, Mbappe, Dembele and Coutinho, getting a special player in the summer is going to be increasingly difficult as clubs look to use their transfer fees as the yardstick.

Clearly we need something, so the question is what is it? Does Jose look to promote from within giving the likes of Perreira, Dalot, McTominay maybe even the likes of Chong, Gomes and Greenwood game time or do we just keep chasing the best available players paying the transfer fees required to go along with them?

Do we look to dump the 4-3-3 system as it's not yielding the goal return we would hope for? 3 at the back?
