£100m gets you nothing playerwise nowadays. It’s maybe one player with potential, or two on the way out of contract in their late 20s / early 30s. United are lacking all over the pitch. Central defence, wings, forward. You maybe have one decent player in some of those areas, but no way can you cope with an injury to them.

Now is the time for a full rebuilding job and that includes manager. You can’t beat City on the pitch by buying a group of individuals and hoping they’ll perform. That’s what Ron Atkinson did and it never worked. You need to build a team and squad.

If Bailly is going then that should be it for Mourinho it’s another of his purchases that’s not good enough. He can’t even spot talent now.

In fairness to Mourinho, the messiah that is Guardiola has also bought and sold players that weren't what he expected them to be. If Guardiola the uber-coach can't get a tune out of some of his players what hope does a has-been like Mourinho have?

Thankfully we have tradition, history, fan base and genuine INCOME to ensure that at some point we will once again be competing for the league. Some clubs will never have and never had that behind them, and never have the chance to see their team being successful...
All the above means nothing, if you can't create a cohesive, winning team on the pitch.

As to your second sentence, so what - for some clubs, success is avoiding relegation (in whatever league). So you have the biggest this, the best that, the most expensive the other. Start fking winning then and stop making excuses!

You could get 2 players who would walk into your Cm for FREE - Rabiot and Ramsey - they would be very good business, one can sit play DM (with mobility unlike Matic) and is a great passer one offers you something next to Pogba - both would be a signing on fee and good wages

So talk of Jose getting £100M in the January window with a few players possibly leaving Rojo, Bailly being mentioned. We know that the value isn't really there in the January window but due to the transfer fees of recent purchases of the likes of Neymar, Mbappe, Dembele and Coutinho, getting a special player in the summer is going to be increasingly difficult as clubs look to use their transfer fees as the yardstick.

Clearly we need something, so the question is what is it? Does Jose look to promote from within giving the likes of Perreira, Dalot, McTominay maybe even the likes of Chong, Gomes and Greenwood game time or do we just keep chasing the best available players paying the transfer fees required to go along with them?

Do we look to dump the 4-3-3 system as it's not yielding the goal return we would hope for? 3 at the back?

What we 100% need is a leader in central defence, a strong vocal character to play alongside Lindelof. I'd be happy for us to use all 100 mill on it tbh. The rest we can do with until summer when we need a clear out. Feel for Pereira, he played very well pre-season and in the first few games when Matic was injured but hasn't had a look in since. I'd rather him have a go instead of Matic as he's been woeful this season so far.

Mobility in the middle is something that we're crying out for a ball carrier that can open up defences with pace. Pogba can do it but he isn't what I would call quick across the ground. Fred looks like he could do it but I'm not sure that he's at the right level for the prem. yet. Ander can cover the ground, great engine but just hasn't quite got that final piece of the jigsaw to be a top, top player. Love his attitude though. I think Perreira could be the one to do it.

Ramsey is a good shout but I don't know much about Rabiot, I'd have to ask my 9 year old about him.

Jose feels he hasn't got the stable platform defense he needs. Some of that us his doing some was existing. We do appear to be stuck with certain players (dead wood) that we must sell first. If he gets this and cash I'd like to see a proper right back if the new kid is that so be it.
A strong attacking midfielder ( fellaini must unfortunately not be first choice), as long term for Matic.
Sanchez- difficult, but has he done enough? Not sure but we need an outright goalscorer along with lukaku when he's on form and if he isn't. Rash isn't an outright goalscorer yet.

Players needing to be thanked and let go:
Jones. Rojo. Fellaini. Young. Valencia.

Diego Godin if he were 5 years younger and actually wanted to come would be kind of ideal. I think what you're looking for are established players that have been at their respective clubs for years and unlikely to move. Liverpool seem to have pulled off a bit of a masterstroke signing Van Dijk when they did. We can make another move for Alderweireld in the summer he'd cost only £25M I think.

A lot's always spoken about as the spine of the team, I think it's fair to say that DDG aside, in Lukaku, Matic and Smalling that spine looks like it needs either some chiropractic or full on surgery.

Very little's been mentioned about Rui Faria leaving also. I think this has had a pretty profound effect personally but shifting the strategy from a more defensive minded approach to attempting to get the ball higher up the pitch as quickly as possible catching the opposition out doesn't seem to be working either.

We need to start winning back, possession of the football and being much more fluid. Our passing needs to be crisper and the players first touch needs to improve. These are basics that need work on. Keane would have sorted this out by firing balls in to you at training, expecting you to control it and if you didn't digging you out as not good enough for United.

Not Young. He will be a good back up to Dalot/Shaw next season and is a good guy to have in the dressing room.

Agreed. I do like Rojo but appreciate that he's perhaps not the most solid of defenders. The others have had their day. Fellaini is going nowhere though as he's just signed a new deal and will be retained for plan B purposes.

Difficult to sign stellar signings in January as most of the top players will still be involved in CL footballl. Unless of course you can discover a gem from somewhere.

Spurs have been after that Rabiot fellow for years & we seem to do regular business with PSG do fingers crossed we’ll get him if Poch really wants him.

Is Ramsey really better than what you already have ? Not so sure TBH , if he was that good Arsenal would pay him the wages he wants.

Thirded on Young. He’s great cover for another season and was in the team of the World Cup just a few months back.

Jones is another I think has just re-signed as with Fellaini....

It’s been a st week post Sunday but it’s wearing off now. Martial and Pogba haven’t gone to France so will be getting a rest...I just hope it doesn’t fall apart as it did post the derby last year....

How many players are still at United that we’re signed by Ferguson? He’s been retired for 5 or 6 years now. He’d have gone through a team by now and most would be long gone. Why are you hanging onto dross and giving them 1 year deals? They’re only going to leave on a free anyway so let them go now.

Alderseireld is a classic example of the short term thinking. He’s 30 or thereabouts. Not a player for the future.

Players who are not good enough in my view are:

Smalling
Jones
Rojo
Bailly - although might get better

Harry
Mata - under Jose
Mctommy

Lukaku

And Pogba is an expensive luxury, unless the team is built to his strengths.
