Just over a year ago, I covered a game for Opta at Bearwood Park, Reading where the Royals' under-18's took on Manchester City's under-18's in the Premier League Cup semi final. The game was memorable for three reasons.
Firstly, City's centre half Luke Mbete-Tatu was knocked out cold in a clash of heads & was carted off on a golf buggy.
Secondly, the referee seemed to have lost control of his stopwatch & played 24 minutes 19 seconds of stoppage time.
Thirdly, I saw Liam Delap. Liam is the son of Rory, he of the long throw, but the lad plays up front in a 4-3-3 formation. He scored the second in a 5-2 win but he was my MOM; just so direct, powerful and knew where the goal was.
I've followed his career since then and he's on fire. He turned 18 last month but plays for the under-23 team where he's scored 22 goals in 15 games this season. That record has seen him play five times for City's first team this year, scoring four goals in his 324 minutes on the pitch.
Today, he made his England under-18 debut v Wales, coming on as sub and, yes, he scored a penalty. Rumours are that Real Madrid are circling - I'm no City fan but I hope to God they keep him because he will one day play at the very highest level.
And while we are at it, keep an eye on Louie Barry (Aston Villa), Theo Corbeanu (Wolves) and Sam Greenwood (Leeds). Dane Scarlett (Spurs) is already involved with the first team but the other three will be stars.
Delap though is different gravy.

Top goal scorer in Prem. league 2 div. 1. Also scored for City 1st team on his debut. Pep’s got him in his sights. I have seen him play a lot , if he went I would be gutted. I wonder if he’s the reason City don’t seem to be in a rush to buy a striker. Firstly, City's centre half Luke Mbete-Tatu was knocked out cold in a clash of heads & was carted off on a golf buggy.

There are about 5 standout players in the under 23 team, who hopefully won’t go down the Sancho route.

I'd be made up if Pep was thinking of playing him regularly.

I covered the under-18's at Wolves last month, there's some decent players there too. Carlos Borges, Tai Sodje and Oscar Bobb stood out for me.

Yes. I’ve seen Bobb play. He scored in the last match I watched. Pretty sure he only came on as a sub too I'd be made up if Pep was thinking of playing him regularly.
Sergio Aguero to leave City at the end of the season.

Not a City fan but will be gutted to see him go. Right up there among the very best strikers to have played in this country.
I can't imagine City would let him leave unless they had someone incoming so I guess either Kane or Haaland is a done deal.

Pleased there’ll be a statue.
I would imagine the statue will be of him running, waving his shirt, after scoring THAT goal. GloverMart said:
