He clearly trod on his foot and even looked down (instictively) to see what he'd done - definite foul and penalty. Commentators focusing on the arms and whether there was a push, like fools.
I understand that he did, but I’m still confused by the clear and obvious error piece. I didn’t see the foul for three replays (albeit different angles). Harsh to give a penalty for a genuine accident like that.

Even harsher with the encroachment after the first penalty as the player clearing was doing so as a City player who had also encroached was about to tap it in. Are most penalties retaken if saved for encroachment as I’d expect most to have some encroachment.

As I understand it, and I might be wrong.

Penalty is scored & attacking side encroaches, it's a retake.
Penalty is scored & defending side encroaches, no retake and goal awarded.
Penalty is missed & attacking side encroaches, no retake and play on.

Jim Beglin not really getting the point tonight at all, you'd think being an ex pro he would have some idea of what went on.

Beglin is an idiot. banging on about snowflakes because one of the wolves lads felt a muscular/tendon twinge in his neck after a grapple. was nothing to do with an impact, and was clear to anyone with half a braincell.

Good to learn that a foot on the line is encroachment these days. Bullst decision.

Chow, I think Gallagher is wrong there.

In all my years of watching football, it has been the fact that if any defending player encroaches, it is a retak. Gallagher is making the point that it is because that player cleared the rebound and "impacted" on the penalty that it had to be retaken. I'd stake good money on it being one of the two players at the bottom of the screen that encroached enough for the penalty to be retaken.

Well it was so it is- rule is quite clear. Not only did he encroach but it was the same player that kicked the ball out from the rebound. Easy decision to be made.

I don’t agree with VAR but as it is being used then in that case and the penalty it was correct

Fair one Mart, I didn't look at those other players and my gold spectacles are in full effect. Still hate VAR though.

Glovermart explained the different permutations quite well.

Which makes perfect sense logically speaking. However, what that encourages is the attacking side to encroach as the defender will 99% of the time go with you just in case. It gives you every chance to get a retake if needed

A retake can be given for the attacker encroaching. The one rare positive from VAR will hopefully be the end of Atkinson as a top flight referee. He’s an utter disgrace and has been for years. Stealing a living and ruins football games.

Still fancy Wolves though frown
Not changed my opinion unfortunately.

Yes but if you do it and bring the defence with you then if you miss you’re sorted. Seems unlikely if the pen is scored though.

was coming all night. 2 really poor decisions which would have disappointed amateurs have cost the game. top marks to wolves for coming back, even if it was against 10 men.

Not sure about the poor decisions but it was only going to end one way once we were down to 10 men with Bravo in goal and Wolves work effort.
Disappointing but fair resullt unfortunately.

Yep. There’s no way anyone can catch them now. It was nigh on impossible anyway before tonight vomit

However, this shows how teams are finally starting to take it to City. Too many teams have simply rolled over and been beaten before the match kicked off before. Now teams want to beat them and are doing.

Have no idea what Mendy was playing at. The ball cannoned off Kyle Walker's head so if he had shepherded the ball out, it would have been a corner. He must have either missed the touch (difficult) or alternatively thought it came off a Wolves head (even less likely).

Mendy is a poor player end of.

i actually thought he'd been improving over the last few weeks, and had a decent game until he switched his brain off.
