The Official Manchester United Thread (Vol 9)
Discussion
Pre-season was the most important thing for us this season, as opposed to lot's of transfers. Ole got ijnstant results when he came in playing a high energy style, but we faded so quick once it became apparent we were lacking in the fitness department. We went from Oles first few games where we outran teams by a couple of km, to the last of the season where we were being outrun.

When it’s framed like that it’s not the cheeriest situation...The press (and other teams' fans) will always love a story. One minute OGS is the second coming and the next he's useless and the club is in crisis.
I expect a solid 3rd or 4th this season. There will be ups and downs, but that's a league.
What I will do is look at the results and the table. What I won't do is shat my y-fronts because a self-elected journalistic expert tells me to.

No criticism of OGS. He spent well on a tiny budget. I expect a solid 3rd or 4th this season. There will be ups and downs, but that's a league.

Meanwhil Redcafe is exploding with frustation by the way the club's been run since the Glazer era.
I mentioned this even years ago.
- No football knowledge whatsoever in management at United (no director of football, no link between the youth academy and the first team, what's the actual philosophy of the club ? how does United want to play ?)
- To add to that; erratic appointment of coaches/managers: LvG is a totally diff. coach as Mourinho (playing style, youth development etc.) Not to mention Moyes and Ole.
- A top heavy management board, mainly consisting Americans/Glazers, who do not seem to understand football but do interfere
- Former WC United players are somehow kept at a distance, while some of them could be usefull in management/marketing/youth academy/coaching staff, either short term if not developing into long term assets;
- Overpaying for fairly mediocre to at best decent players (Maguire, Lukaku, Lindelof, Rojo, etc.etc.) and waisting good to WC players (DiMaria, Sanchez, maybe even Pogba).
United isn't run like a billion dollar prof. football organisition but a weird combo. of old English style management and an American sport franchise.
Fundamentally it all went sour the one or two years before Ferguson left. United was Ferguson and Fergison was United. Except Ferguson didn't invest anymore and somehow picked Moyes as his succesor.
There's a chance United this year will compete with the likes of Everton and Leicester for place 5 to 7. $ity and Liverpool are certainly out of reach, Arsenal and Tottenham most probably. Chelski maybe.
Ole, more than a decent chap, but certainly doesn't seem to have what it takes at this moment to carry United.
Interesting season ahead.
