How massive a coup was it for us to get VvD! City baulked at the price tag(!) and joined us. That decision by the City board surely must hurt Pep each day. He would have been the ideal replacement for Kompany and defensive issues City currently face regardless of injuries.

Apologies if it's been discussed, but can anyone explain the current pundit obsession with clean sheets? Are they picking on it because there's nothing else to criticise us for? I honestly couldn't care less how many goals we ship. The season is not going to be decided by goal difference and we don't get any extra points for clean sheets so why should any of us give two hoots? Does anyone really think Allison's mental strength is so poor that he'll suddenly crumble if too many goals go past him and yet we still win the games?

Except it assumes he would have moved to City for more money. If that was the case he would have turned us down and moved to City for the amount City were prepared to pay.

There is an argument that city's spending is devalued because the sort of players that cost £50m and are happy to go and sit on the bench because they get paid an extra £50k a week aren't the sort of players you want in your team. It's a weak argument given how much they've spent obviously.

More Milners, fewer Sterlings is what gets you backbone, resolve and the ability to get through difficult patches. It's not a coincidence that we don't fight to buy players once they've shown an interest in a club that'll pay them more.

Character then ability means the manager can add the extra 5%, Ability then character leaves the manager unable to get the best out of his players.

Of course it’s not a concern if we keep scoring more than we concede.

The issue is the defence seems less solid than last year (perhaps due to Matip being on and off) so you can never quite relax even at 2-0. Press need to write something negative to show balance and critical skills, fair enough. Also they will sense the disquiet around Anfield when we have a nervy last 20 defending a 2-1

We kept lots of clean sheets last year. It's unusual to go 13 games (?) without a clean sheet and be top of the league, let alone have a big lead. It's interesting because it isn't a coincidence, yet it's lead to better results.

Good point, too many goals to keep track of them all.

I am not so sure he would have gone to Man City, even if more money was offered for wages and had agreed a transfer.

In the interview below, he says how the Liverpool fanbase and support for him to come to us "stayed with him". I genuinely believe him; he is definitely more of the Milner mould than Sterling. It reflects in how he comes cross in interviews etc.

I absolutely agree with your point of character first and foremost over ability.

I think fans at the ground need to stop the nervy nonsense. I don't see that concern on faces on the pitch.

Bobby Duncan's agent has been fined and banned for his Twitter rants accusing LFC of bullying and holding BD against his will.

I looked up his stats and initially thought he was doing ok. 8 league games and 3 goals. Then noticed that was in Fiorentina's U19 squad and he also has a red card.

What a fk up. An adult should have given him a slap back to reality. Did Gerrard not have a word. Smashing the U23's, on the fringes of the first team squad, would probably have got his debut this season and he's thrown it away.

Maybe he'll come good but if not he's going to look back on the influences around him when he was 17 and cry.

Huge game tonight. Can't help but be nervous. Salzburg are no mugs.

Can take some solace from things like this though...

What this doesn't show is that we (and City) have played 25 games each, whilst the rest of the teams on that list have played 27. So we could actually be on 79 points and be 18 points ahead of Barcelona.

I think I'd take the 15 league titles Barca have won since you last won the league. But maybe that's just me.
