6 ballon d’or nominations. Let’s hope VVD gets recognised this time.

hehe

The Ballon D'Or is about individual performance over the last year as voted for by footballing journalists plus national team coaches and captains. With all due respect to Henderson, he's not even the best performing player at Liverpool with at least half a dozen I'd name before him, let alone in Europe. Add in his so far woeful appearances for England and I think you can see why he won't feature.

Interesting that Neymar has been ruled out of the nominations too, mostly for being a tt. rofl

Trent Alexander-Arnold won’t travel to Belgium for CL game v Genk. Ruled out due to a virus.

Seems logical, although I think Gomez would make a better midfielder than a right back sometimes.

I hope Keita gets some game time this week - European game against what would appear to be a weaker opponent should be a good opportunity to give him a run out.

Given there was more than half a dozen Liverpool players nominated then he must have been pretty close to it then!

Pretty close?

Champions League Winning Captains since 1993 - 2018. I would imagine almost every single one would have made the ballon d'or shortlist in that year. Just saying.

Gomez is first and foremost a CB and I don’t think there is any other position ‘suited’ to his attributes. Tall, strong.
A lot is asked of a RB in this day and age, Andy Robertson is probably what you want every wingback to be. Energetic, can tackle and can deliver the ball in the final third.
Gomez isn’t that so when he does play RB he will in the majority defend that right side than attack it.
In midfield he isn’t a 6, with awareness to break up play and make a decent pass to someone out wide and he isn’t an 8 or a 10 neither.

You’re probably right. Abidal had a cancer tumour so was handed the captains armband for that final.
In regards to Henderson, he puts a shift on. Obviously has a captains personality in the dressing room and I’m not surprised that Juergen would hand him the armband, Henderson May not have the greatest technical ability but he gives his all every single game he plays and I believe that’s a huge reason why Klopp would have him as the captain.
Make others around you see how you are not giving up in every tackle, sprint back etc.
This year, I haven’t seen the shortlist but there’s Alisson, VvD, Robertson, Salah, Mane, Firmino all who must be infront of him.

Henderson is more of a Carles Puyol captain than a Lionel Messi captain.
