Hi everyone,

My parents want to buy me a driving experience for Christmas and I really fancy trying rallying.

I don’t want something lame that will entail a few minutes driving followed by much waiting around, looking for a full day session with budget around £3-400. Can anyone make some suggestions?

The preference is Yorkshire area. I did find this place which seems good but it’s a long way for me

If you're up for a trip to Wales then Phil Price Rally school is one of the best driving experiences I have done. http://www.philprice.co.uk

Great guys and real enthusiasts, they really push you and you also get a lot of time in the car (with and without instructors). I found they really encouraged you to find the limit unlike others where they seem too protective over the cars etc.. You also get a flying run on their proper rally stage which is something else If you've never been full chat in a rally car :-)

Loved the whole day, Phil and the team are fantastic guys - In fact i've been twice and I've never done that on any other driving days.. I've done a couple of other rally driving experiences, but in my experience this was easily the best.

Chris Birkbeck's rally school is near Saltburn so just north of North Yorkshire, they have a very good reputation and do full day courses using Focus/Imprezas. The Phil Price one near Knighton is meant to be good if you prefer forests - Birkbeck's is loose surface but not forestry.

Thanks for this link - it seems a very reasonable price for what looks to be a lot of driving time, which makes a change from an hour in a car and several hours standing around.

I'll second this. I did a full day with them early last year and it was awesome. I came away actually having learnt something. They run the day really well too, so you are always doing something and you get lots of seat time. Fantastic.

Thanks, I had hoped to avoid driving down to Wales as that means staying the previous night however that does seem the best option so far

Check out TI Rally School in Seaton Ross. I did a taster session there and loved it, but they do half/full day sessions, too. RWD Escorts, good muddy fun!

Just looked on their website and they're doing full-day courses on weekdays for £220.

I can only speak from personal experience. I have experienced both But I can say that i did TI rally school as well. They were also pretty fantastic. Really great day, but very different from Phil Price (in a good way) You get to use the handbrake on TI and not on PP for instance which is a bonus. But for me I went back to PP. they just edged it and I went back for a second time.
TI is more on the flat and I felt just not quite as engaging probably for that reason. But TBH TI have the same ethos as in they want you to have fun and push the car. Really couldn’t fault them for that and would also recommend

I did the Forest Rally day in the OP a couple of years ago, really good day and loads of seat time. I'd happily go and do it again.

It's a way from Yorkshire, but my work social club has arranged a couple if trips to the London rally school.
