Hi all. More specifically I am looking at 991.2 Turbo / Turbo S.

Insurers are asking for a 'Cat 5' tracker to be fitted. I've researched but couldn't confirm:

Is the Porsche VTS tracker fitted as standard?
Is this tracker 'Cat 5' type (or better)?

Thanks a lot.

Is this the one that uses those little black plastic things to engage or disengage?

If you mean a driver recognition card, then yes. The activation is automatic - not like the old days of having to physically insert something in to a receptacle. Cat 5 means a DRC is required.

So, I tried to contact Vodafone Automotive and got put on hold for an unreasonable period. Not great first impressions.

I'm thinking it might be worth getting a tracker from another supplier, despite the installation cost.

Some insurance companies fit them as a part of the insurance. So a black box like the youths have. But then if they see your car speeding they might cancel your insurance. Some companies sell a little plug in device which you slot it in your OBD port and it does its thing. They are only like 10 or 20 quid per month with no upfront cost which seems crazy cheap. Yes this is shameless plug for a company I have invested in.

I believe you go onto your section of the Porsche portal and you can then download the certificate as I recall. It is cat5 I had the same problem with my insurer.

Ah yes, that lovely VTS tracker that caused my only ever breakdown in a 1 year old 911 ...
