Liverpool have an additional year option on Dejan Lovren's contract which means he is effectively tied to the club until the summer of 2022. That will affect his price tag as interested clubs, such as Zenit St Petersburg, believed he had one year left on his deal.

4 years left of him - enjoy what we have now
I actually figured maybe we'd have him for another couple, so I guess that's a bonus. Can't blame him for wanting to move back to his own country and language, eventually.

He could get the sack at any time before the 4 years.

And the world could be invaded by little green men. Led by Elvis, riding on a winged chariot. Pulled by unicorns.

But really, how far do you want to go with it?

I have to say, even I was surprised at how different Alisson looks off the field.

Winning CL cost us £40m in bonuses to players/Roma/Southampton.

We will have further payments due to winning PL.

Kirkby costs spiralling, maybe up to £70m.

Contracts to get front three & other important players to stay.

Again tho. This season we will make record losses #LFC

yikes

(To be fair, another central defender would cost a small fortune, need van den Berg to develop further, makes financial sense to keep Lovren as 4th choice, he's experienced and settled at Liverpool).

I think we're keeping him just to be Salah's pet.

It's absolutely fine only until the worst case scenario arises.

But how far do you go? surely thats the same with every position
If you look at City they have Stones/Otamendi
UTD - PHIL JONES

Who can you say actually has a far better CB than lovren thats 4th choice ? If he is why is he 4th choice... you are always going to be worse off if 2 players are injured for 1 position

I guess what you want from your reserve players is for them to be able to come in and find their feet immediately. Lovren has always been much better when he's playing week in week out, that's when he doesn't make mistakes.

And playing devils advocate it often takes some of our 1st 11 time to find their feet- its a big ask to expect any player to come in playing at his best level when he isn't playing.

Absolutely, there's a spot-light on defenders too because their mistakes are more likely to affect the score-line in an obvious way. A striker will be allowed to miss a sitter or two, midfielders can give the ball away or misplace a few passes, where a defender will be lambasted for giving away a penalty or a goal.

Totally , personally I think Lovren can be flavour of the month, he can have 4 or 5 good games then 1 mistake or 1 bad game and the other games get forgotten. If we had a really potential 1st team youth lad willing to take his spot I could understand selling him but I think we are 1 or 2 years to early with Hoever so it makes sense to take the option up of the extra 1 year, in 2 years However will poss be ready if not we buy then but we have to give these lads the chance or we will never get youth players coming to our club.

How does Klopp always know just what to say?!

Klopp said:
From a personal point of view, I'm happy that City can play Champions League next year because if I think about the league, if City has 10-12 games less, I don't think anybody has a chance. But I don't think yesterday was a good day for football.

that's fair - as a 4th choice he is better than most our competitors have

only issue I have with him is he thinks he is god's gift and so over-commits / lunges in, where almost a little less confidence would produce a better result
