To be honest, having just read back the bile aimed at our players during the match I'm glad I watched it without coming in here. It would have been like having a season ticket next to a bloke who spent 90 minutes cursing his own players.

An "ok" performance but at least we won. A better attack would have scored against us. Us at our best would have murdered them - Sheffield Utd were pretty poor yesterday I thought. Their keeper clearly kept them in it in the first half. Klopp dodged the post match question asking "was tonight's performance better than recently?" - he will have known it wasn't. 3 points is the most important thing, a clean sheet and good to see Curtis Jones has his shooting boots on. But clearly work still to do. Kabak is struggling to integrate but hardly surprising. It will be good experience for him if he's mentally strong enough; that's possibly not the best scenario now but it is what it is; no point griping about it. We can only play the best of who's fit.

Fab and Jota should be fit for Thursday and hopefully a better performance then.

Yea, throwing two inexperienced CBs together into a new team in the middle of a Premier League campaign at a time when the team isn't performing well is just about the worst combination of factors to get those CBs settled and playing well.

I'm not really expecting much over the next few weeks whilst we have so many players out. I think expectations should be reset and it we get Champions League (which I think we will), then I think that's a great achievement for us and the season.

The issue with Kabak is it doesn't seem to just be integration. Shalke's defence was also terrible - I think somewhere over 3 goals a game with him in it? But it's good to try him out now, and we can say no at the end of the loan period. It's not like we're having to take someone amazing out of the team to play him.

I don't know how many options we had at the end of the window. We're not committed to Kabak but given his age and time in the side you'd expect him to grow in to the side. Perhaps the biggest benefit would have been freeing up Hendo and/or Fabinho to move into midfield but Hendo's injury has killed that, too.

This chap https://www.transfermarkt.it/bremer/profil/spieler... is one we keep being linked with. I won't put a highlights reel up hehe

Klopp said Schalke had a lot of problems - not just on the pitch. Lots of factors at play there and Kabak was just a part of a team with problems. He must be wondering when the good times start...

On the race for the top 4, on the BBC, Danny Murphy states

'For Liverpool, form is temporary and class is permanent - although it might just be the Reds fan in me thinking they can now go on a long winning run.'

I know. But it could well indicate he's not just facing integration problems - it could easily also be confidence, or just that he's not good enough. The lack of pace he won't grow into, so we'd have to hope for confidence and/or better reading of the game. Confidence can be developed in the time we have, but I'd suspect the reading of the game will be more tricky in the loan period as it takes time.

All true but I'm sure they did their homework on him and know what qualities he has got (and that he's not quick). Clearly however we were desperate, given he's been thrown straight in - and above Phillips initially, so we assume they think he's better than Phillips (even if he hasn't shown that yet).

RIP Ian St John

Was a bit before my time as a player but always used to love St and Greavsie - It was the first thing we ever recorded on VHS and I must have watched that section about 250 times. (I presume it was when they were on World of Sport rather than their own show as I'd like to think I was a bit more mature by 1985)

Ian St John, a Liverpool legend long before the word "legend" was used to describe anyone who scored a few vital goals.
Rest in peace, Saint.

RIP. I know he was a good age, but the people from this era passing on is making me feel proper old now.

Saint and Greavsie. Of their time, legends.

Just adding my condolences, I loved Saint and Greavsie growing up. He came from a time when there was more respect between our great clubs, for players and supporters. Someone commented else where on how many great Scottish players there used to be in Div 1, what happened to that production line?

RIP Saint.

Sad news, he was a lovely fella. I used to go to his Ian St John football schools each summer as a kid and he was always a really nice guy. I megged him once too in a kids vs coaches game, I may have mentioned that a few times over the years, thanks Saint. YNWA.

Condolences from a United fan.
Always thought Ian St John came across as a really nice guy.
I used to watch Bill Shankly's Liverpool on Sunday afternoons KickOff.
They were brilliant and he was a key player.
