Reading all the speculation about Haaland this morning. Should we be interested?

Of course we should be interested.

Can't see it happening though as he will be too much money.

He's the same age as Rhian Brewster and has scored 33 goals in 30 games in the German League.

Rhian Brewster was 23 million quid!

Haaland will be 150 million plus type of money (or whatever the new equivalent is after Covid)

It's a nice idea but can't see it.

No way can we afford Mbappe and Haaland laugh

The way we‘ve spent money recently, the best we can hope for it Harvey Elliot coming back from Blackburn!

The only way we get any sort of signing of that calibre is if they specifically choose us instead of any other club. Like it or not, we still just don't have the financial muscle to compete with many top clubs, especially in a bidding war for the top, top players.

I'm not sure he will be 150m given the current climate. 2 of the clubs paying that type of fee were Barca and Real, and both of them are pretty screwed. So it leaves for example PSG and Man City, maybe one or two others. But City also don't tend to sign the crazy fees - just many many expensive players but not insane numbers for just one person. Add in the corona uncertainty and I suspect we'll not see it, like we would have seen a few years back. But don't expect him to join us anyway!

I agree. We still have a thing about only signing players that WANT to come and work with Klopp, and fit the personality profile we look for. I know little about Haaland apart from he's good, some youthful arrogance and he has the same agitating agent as Pogba... On balance, I would guess we won't be in for him unless he actually is the kind of person Klopp wants to work with.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him at Utd. I'm not sure if City will be in for him since Messi seems destined to rock up there in the summer and will be on mega wages. I do wonder if Chelsea will go in for him?

The issue is United could buy him but that would be it for transfers ,city could literally buy him,and messi and mmmmbop and 4 or 5 50m players to sit on the bench.

There is no competition, teams cannot earn the money to compete .You can get the odd exception like yourselves the last 2 seasons but over a sustained period money will rule and when you have a club that is state financed and above the laws of the game ,it is game over.

Giroud is 34 - I guess they would be looking to replace him at Chelsea.

As said above I can't see him commanding the price this Summer he would have done before covid, but Dortmund will no doubt listen to anything over his buyout clause. I can see City doing it as an alternative to Messi - it would make far more financial sense. I can see Utd doing it if they have the cash to spend, and Chelsea, assuming Abramovich is happy to open his wallet again. We would only be in for him if we're selling enough to balance it out - and if he was the kind of player Klopp wanted. Given the aggro we got from Sterling's agent in 2015, I'm not sure what our policy is now on agents who think they're bigger than the clubs they deal with.

If I was a betting man, I would say we're not likely to go for him.

If there is any chance City can sign Messi then they'll do it, as much for the PR as anything else. The debate over whether they are a big club or not becomes harder if the worlds best player ever decides to join you. But I'm not sure I agree that they can just spend unlimited amounts of money. Granted they have pretty much single-handedly killed FFP and we all know their accounts are as reliable as Jimmy Carr's, but I would still like to think they will at least pretend to comply with FFP and signing Messi, Haaland and several other £50m players on £200/k wages at the end of a pandemic does little to show that.

Utd - I agree they probably could only afford to sign him and no one else. It'll be interesting to see if they go back in for Sancho too.

Chelsea - I could see him linking up with Werner pretty well. I feel like they still have a bit of cash to splash before they starting hitting FFP limits too.

Ultimately though, I'm not sure how many clubs will be willing to spend £100m+ on any player this summer given the impact the pandemic has had. I wouldn't be surprised if Haaland stays one more season at Dortmund. They'll have certainly had their moneys worth from him in the two seasons he'll have been there and his release clause isn't exactly a bag of crisps.

Haaland's demands were laid out a few weeks ago.

Given recent events at Barca I'm wondering whether Gini will stay for longer. That would be one less player to find in the summer.

I believe that would automatically make him one of the highest paid in the league and at either Manchester clubs - who are just about the only clubs in the PL that pay those sort of wages.

But wouldn’t city then breach the FFP rules?

For "Haaland's demands" read "this is what my agent says we can get". And jolly good luck to him. We only go for players who want in; wages (while no doubt being high on the agenda) aren't the immediate primary concern.

I'd be quite happy for Gini to stay - equally if he still wants one last pay day in a warmer climate, best of luck to him. Not like we're short of midfielders (although clearly he's one of our best ones).

I'll be completely honest and say that when Gini first joined from Newcastle, I thought the price was pretty keen and there's no way I thought he'd be one of the stars in a team that has gone on to win so much!

His agent is a twunt.

I actually think we need some midfield additions as some will leave and the squad ages. Jones' emergence is a big plus.

Me neither - Klopp has improved so many players in his time with us.

I don't know - I think any who do come in will be "for the future" type signings. Unless there's another "Jones" coming through. Milner will no doubt play less next season, Fab will be back in midfield though. Keita, Thiago - assuming they both start to deliver and stay free from injury, Hendo, Jones...

I'd let Keita go. Also think Shaq will go, Gini probably and perhaps Ox. Then there are players like Grujic around, who would have been sold for the right price.

That leaves Hendo, Fab, Thiago, Jones, Milly.

IMO we still have a Coutinho type hole.

Elsewhere Adrian and Origi will be off.

However, this all assumes that there's money out there to take them.
