Th reality is with Martinez vs Leno is that Martinez had said explicitly if he didn’t get first team football he wanted to leave and was due to sign a contract...he was on £20k a week apparently. Leno on the other hand is two years into presumably a four year deal so of they went with Martinez Leno would probably have ended up sitting on the bench. Club needed the money, I think that’s why they went with Leno.

Brighton have signed Welbeck on a one year, now who’s going to give Jack a chance.... and I did have to snigger at Spurs being decidedly Spursy earlier laugh

Hilarious

Especially Bale missing a sitter just before the equaliser
Far more entertaining a game than the snoozefest your team put on this weekend.

(I'm neither Arsenal or a Tottenham supporter)

What a weird comment. Did you go to the Man City thread to let them know how boring the game was as well? Leicester and Villa game wasn't exactly a goal fest - did you let them know how dissapointed you were as well? If arsenal had thrown away a 3 goal lead in 10 minutes then the spurs fans would enjoy it as well (as I well remember when we threw away a 4 goal lead against Newcastle). It's part of the rivalry. They really don't need some random white knight riding to defend their honour.

Anyway, Mourinho is at it again. I know he was asked the question about Wenger's book in the hope that he would say something provocative but he seems to love living up to the stereotype of being a gobste. Like the white van driver who actually does go around tailgating everyone.

Wenger's response was perfect - little more than a roll of the eyes and dismissal of him as a kindergarten child.

Just seems strange to take pleasure from another team losing when your own team puts on such pathetic dull performances which you can't be proud of. Check your own state of affairs rather than being embroiled in some tribery.

You don't understand football rivalry at all then. Call it petty or whatever, but of course local rivals take pleasure in their rival's defeats. Tottenham can have a turgid game and of course their fans will enjoy an arsenal defeat the same weekend. Just the way it works. Same for any other team in any other league. Check the United thread when city lose. The Everton thread when Liverpool lose. The list could go on.

And the performance on Saturday wasn't great, but you made it sound like that is the way arsenal have been performing for weeks. Yet we're still in amongst the top of the table. A defeat away to Liverpool and man city is dissappointing but will be the result for most teams come the end of the season. So overall, yes, I am pretty proud of the team the last few months. And most arsenal fans have been 'checking their own state of affairs' over the weekend and doing so in far, far more depth than enjoying the spurs defeat. No one was happy with the the city performance and result - you make it sound like that was forgotten in the festivities surrounding the spurs result, which is of course complete nonsense.

Ozil and Sokratis not included in EPL squad according to papers, nothing on the Arsenal website that I can see.

Holding "out for up to 6 games/ 4 weeks" due to hamstring...more Luiz time frown

I don't expect to see Ozil in any announced squad between now and Jan transfer window, despite reports in the press that Arteta has supposedly given him 2 months to prove himself.....(which if true, presumably means in training given he's not giving him a chance to do so on the pitch, and he'd be so out of game time anyway, so I take those reports as pish tbh)

Seems like a management decision to me, to leave him out, rather than a coaching decision from Arteta.

True, he really may just not be putting in the effort, but Arteta started him in this first 10 games before lockdown. It's also not like we have replaced him, he's still the only proper creator we have on the payroll.

Ah well, it is what it is. I just don't understand why the board don't just pay him out of his contract, yes it might not be the cheapest course of action but having him around has just been a constant source of gossip and rumours. Surely paying him off would just be better for the atmosphere in the club?

I think the Ozil story is about what he does (or rather doesn’t) do off the ball....even Wenger has said recently that was an issue. I just think given how teams play these days the “free spirit” might not be the right fit. Such a shame...I used to love going to The Emirates in those first three years.....it was just fascinating to watch how good he was on the ball and how scared the other team was of him.

If you look at the system Arteta plays we just don’t play with a No 10 and that is really the only place Ozil can play. Maybe that’s why he hasn’t picked him !

The game has changed since Ozil was hitting assists for fun, there isn’t the luxury position available anymore like a free roaming 10, midfielders now are expected to pressure off the ball and track back.

I’m of the opinion that arteta has asked that of ozil in training and just hasn’t seen it enough and at 32 he either can’t change his style to suit or achieve the fitness levels to work the whole game.

I’m gonna stick with: Ozil has lost his passion for the game who wants to stay at home and play his xbox.

Better off with him out of the squad than a dead weight.

Dunno about the xbox, but I do think he's lost his passion for the game since the PL was suspended. Something happened to him, or his view of the game/world/himself changed during the lockdown, after the PL suspension in March and prior to the PL restarting in July.
He played in the 10 games prior to the PL being suspended and not in a game since, so has Arteta really changed the team and style of play that much since lockdown?
Maybe like many other people he's mentally struggled with the 'new normal' and his mind is just now elsewhere, although, his personal statements since would seem to not indicate that, but I suppose he's not going to admit that.
I'm not sure he'll ever play again, for anyone.

Sad situation for all involved in my opinion. Not sure if we will ever find out the real reasons why the club and player have reached this point. I do wonder if he will help some of the younger talent in the under 23’s etc develop or take his money and do nothing.

On another note - Rapid Vienna tonight. Surely a win (fingers crossed)

Someone found Ozil on Xbox....apparently he was playing 4 to 5 hours a day of Fortnite. I guess there’s some kind of “badge of honour” so players know how addicted other people are to it !

5 hours a day sat playing X box isn’t any good for anyone especially a professional athlete. That alone tells you he’s not committed to being the best he can be,,,,

As for “I was playing really well”. In the last two seasons he’s got 4 assists in 38 PL starts. In his best season he got 19 in 35. Yes you can say the team wasn’t playing very well but Auba found a way to score goals in that team.
