I think Origi is just a different type of striker from what we normally have. Add in the lack of game time and it’s not a surprise he can’t develop much. Jota had the chances to develop elsehwhere, hence the fee. It’s why it’s so hard for youth to develop - ‘top’ teams don’t have the chances to play developing players for the most part. So then the place faces the choice to take a pay cut and try elsewhere lower and prove themself but with the risk they will never earn nearly the same, or just sit around and bank the cash from a top club that sets them up for life and maybe miss their best potential. For Karius it’s very clear he won’t make it elsewhere given the loan periods, so for him it really makes sense to get as much wages from Liverpool as possible.
As Adam says, players won't typically drop salary when they have a contract.
And would you? If you had a job contract of that 60k for 3 years, would you honestly go down to say 30k so you could play more? Remember their earning period is short, and if you fail at that 30k job you might basically get nothing going forward after that.

The average wage of a Premier League footballer is just over £60,000 a week. So there will be options available to him.
If he can get roughly the same elsewhere, it would make sense to move on. He is approaching his prime, would probably be guaranteed more first team chances elsewhere and a chance to rebuild his international career - which has stalled.

Very decent striker when he wants to be. As said he'd probably suit a different team and set up more than us. I just don't understand why he didn't really kick on from the CL season. He scored some vital goals in the PL season but last season never looked bothered or like he was really trying.
Maybe he knows he's never going to be a top, top player, probably never going to play at a club as big as Liverpool again. But if he stays, he might just get some more opportunities like Barcelona and the CL final...
WWYD - go and be the main man at a mid-table club and probably hardly ever fight for trophies. Or be backup at a big club and potentially score the winning goal in a final (again)?

Yes. And the question is if we are getting rid of him and he's on the average wage for a PL player, who are we getting in that will be willing to warm the bench for 60k that is a better option than him? The best players won't sign to sit on the bench unless you offer them huge sums.
It’s a fair point, but it’s not like he’s coming on and changing matches. Maybe time to take a punt on someone else on “average” wages who can add more (and perhaps look interested). jammy-git said:

Nah, I think that time has gone - he was often not even on the bench last season, or when he was he often wasn't used. I would have thought they've had a conversation with him about how much he would be used by now.WWYD - go and be the main man at a mid-table club and probably hardly ever fight for trophies. It's nothing to do with that - of course he earns great money. But it's just another job at the end of the day. I don't know why so many people think they should just volunteer to take a big pay cut and save the club some money as a result. I wouldn't do that at my work. I doubt anyone else here would either.
Some players want to play, ultimately. Work their way back into their national team; show they still have something to offer a bigger club further down the line, even. Get another chance to kick start their career and maybe win something further down the line. There are others, admittedly, who prefer cold hard cash and can't be budged. If Origi is one of those, then that's hardly going to persuade JK to use him.

Well a few decent players we have gotten before have been a 'what, him?!' type Moneyball player so wouldn't begrudge a possible swoop for a few of the lesser known players who have done well in the Euros who it turns out have done well all year for their non-major European league clubs. After all were not talking best players who are coming in for a starting spot place, after all Origi isn't.
Once in a lifetime opp. Hopefully Salah doesn't return to training a bit grumpy:
