Well a few decent players we have gotten before have been a 'what, him?!' type Moneyball player so wouldn't begrudge a possible swoop for a few of the lesser known players who have done well in the Euros who it turns out have done well all year for their non-major European league clubs.
After all were not talking best players who are coming in for a starting spot place, after all Origi isn't.
Absolutely. But it doesn't get him off out books. And for almost all players they're not going to take a cut when they have a good contract. So we have to hope a club is willing to pay above average wages for a player who has not shone recently and has basically no game time for ages. During corona income impact. It's a very hard sell... hence why we likely still have him and probably will until the end of his contract. After all were not talking best players who are coming in for a starting spot place, after all Origi isn't.
It'd be great if we could swap him for a new gem. The issue is the club would likely have already done it if it was possible.

Some players want to play, ultimately. Work their way back into their national team; show they still have something to offer a bigger club further down the line, even. Get another chance to kick start their career and maybe win something further down the line.
There are others, admittedly, who prefer cold hard cash and can't be budged. If Origi is one of those, then that's hardly going to persuade JK to use him.
How many though? I can't think of any names of players that have volunteered to take cuts, rather than just ran out of contract and then had to sign a new contract at a lower wage? There are others, admittedly, who prefer cold hard cash and can't be budged. I have absolutely no knowledge of what players earn AT Liverpool, or when they go elsewhere. It's pretty common for players to be sold and go elsewhere though when they're told they're unlikely to feature much. More than those who run their contracts down and don't budge (at least that's my impression - I wouldn't even know where to look for stats on all this).DeltonaS said:

Wijnaldum out of the Euros and arguably at fault for both Czech goals.
It's all downhill after Liverpool.
Wijnaldum is a decent player, but never was a top player. It's all downhill after Liverpool.
He seemed at home at Liverpool.

He's definitely becoming quite inconsistent. He's certainly not the type of player to really dig in and pull out a performance when things aren't going well.
I think a number of the French players believe their own hype and don't have that ability to dig in, we have 2 of them at UtdGassing Station | Football | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
