Overall the quality of this tournament hasn’t been great. Missed penalties galore, teams playing not to lose, rather than win, tea,s trying to hold on to a 1 goal lead for ridiculous amounts of time, rather than finish opponents off. There have been exceptions and the odd decent match, but it’s not great.
I wonder how much the amount going through vs being knocked out means teams just trying to do the bare minimum to squeeze through.

Aimless, schmamless, The pundit's view is that if you expect end-to-end excitement, inventive play and individual flair in the group stages you need to be hit in the pus with a heavy, wet, REAL leather football.The deal is to get through to the knockout stages by all means possible, and if that involves defensive, dull, tedious,

It’s wider than England. It’s across the tournament, it’s across club football. It’s all about possession and sideways football with little end product. Score a goal if you’re lucky and try to defend it for whatever time’s left in the game, even if it’s 88 minutes (Denmark), mainly just aim for a draw and not to lose. A lot of the teams playing this way are struggling to get through. They definitely wouldn’t if it was top 2 only qualifying.
