Probably a question asked many times before.
What are the views on changing the colour to a non Ferrari colour. Especially with a view of selling many years down the line. Any one done it?

Hard to believe it would be worth the expense abs would certainly make the car more difficult to sell down the line. The available palette at the time was very limited.

Probably best not to, maybe ok when they were cheaper,Will find it hard to sell and cost you big money for

a proper colour change only to de-value the car,This was done back in the late 80's/90's price hype to many

308's ,mainly from silver or blue cars to red as there was a premium for red cars and the cost being much less than today,

Hence you now see red cars with blue interiors, If you want that one off colour best to wrap it then you got the option

of unwrapping it when time to sell. ,

With regard to resale, the answer is obvious to me. What do you think would be easiest to sell, one with standard paint or this one?...

Please don’t. There are only a few thousand of these beautiful cars in the world and you’re lucky enough to own one. You’re the guardian of a piece of unique automotive art, and you have a responsibility to keep it as original as possible. That way, future generations can enjoy it as the factory intended.

Take a look at Litchfield motors and get a colour change pp spray - that way it’s reversible at sale time and you get to let your imagination go wolf with what you want the car to look like.

Hmm, reminds me of this episode of questionable taste...

To answer the OP's original question, don't do it. I had an RS2000 that had been repainted prior to me buying it and it was a difficult car to move on, even at that lower level of car, I can't imagine how much more hassle it would be with a Ferrari.

Wow. They made a 355 look like an MR2

Personally I think as long as it's been done correctly and tastefully then I dont see a problem.
A potential buyer will always try and knock down the price for what ever reason anyway.

As it is already a CAT D, It has already depreciated and can’t see any changes making it any any cheaper than it already is. Being CAT D is that the one time where you can take a chance and go a bit of piste??

This sort of statement would make me want to do it even more!

If it were that rare and special, someone down the line would be willing to spend the money to make it back to whatever it once was. As it just (just!) a CatD entry level Ferrari I think the current owner should do as he wishes and enjoy it for what it is-it's his car after all.

Of course, you’re absolutely right. His car, his choice. Recognise I’m a bit of a purist on these matters. Heck, I don’t even like to see replacement number plates…

It's his money and his car he can do what he likes with it if you have more money than sense,

Most buyer wouldn't even make a offer on a colour change Ferrari these days ,they would just walk.

things have changed since the £6K 308 GT4's going from brown to red

Jings!!

I wonder what the thought process was behind that?

I'm all for a bit of individualism and fitted a momo steering wheel to my F355 replacing the ugly airbag one and changed the slightly rusty sill plates for carbon but thankfully I don't think I could be imaginative enough to think to do that sort of paint job.

I do remember being down at Verdi Ferrari way back around 2004ish and seeing a green 355 which was off to be painted rosso. Can't remember what the interior was tho.

What price happiness?

Same as buyers wanting low mileage cars and folk not using them for fear of the next person not wanting it.

Let's say a nice 355 is £70k (I mist be wrong-I'm not up on values since I last looked at them in the £40k days!) with 35k miles on the clock.

Let's then say I spent £10k on a respray and drove it 10k a year. In five years it would be a colour changed Ferrari with 85k on the clock.

What's it going to be worth in relation to todays values? £35k? Half price? £45k to drive around (plus maintenance of course) in your dream car in your dream colour for 5 year?

I bet there's millions lost more on depreciation/lease/finance payments over 5 years in way more boring stuff!

Why not wrap it or even plastidip it? That way it’s reversible. A have your cake and eat it too solution.
