Hi,
My wife would like to start riding motorcycles, specifically scooters.

She is interested in a Honda PCX125 or SH125 does anyone have either of these and can comment on if they are any good and the pros/cons of both?

Cheers

Can she ride a bicycle? I ask because it might give an indication of her ability to balance.

She did her CBT last weekend, strictly speaking she didn't need to do it as she has a full U.K car license which allows her to ride one without a CBT. But she felt she wanted to try it out first.

She needs a CBT to ride a 125 - Strictly. (unless she has a full bike licence).
if she passed her car test before 1st February 2001, then she can ride a moped (50cc) without one.

I have ridden a Honda PCX125 a few times - it certainly feels quite nippy around town.

I bought a PCX 125 last February to commute into Birmingham. Had always regarded motorbikes with a fair bit of suspicion having lost two friends to bike accidents when younger, I saw the PCX as a necessary evil to beat the incoming CAZ charge and to cut down the ridiculous amount of time spent in traffic. It was purely to be a commuting tool and nothing else.

Within a couple of weeks of using it I realised I'd missed out on an absolutely fantastic mode of transport and resolved to get my A licence to make amends. Lockdown got in the way and I've ended up on the PCX for just over 12 months but found myself riding it for fun after the office closed and moved to home working in March 20.

I've just moved on to a CB500F and whilst that's even more fun,as you'd expect in an apples vs oranges way, have to say I do miss the practicality of the PCX and come winter am defintely going to miss it's weather proof running boards and fairing.

Making the transition from scooter to geared bike wasn't as big of a deal as I thought it would be.

Pros - 120+mpg, lively for what it is, bright LED lights, big luggage space, no issues with reliability / corrosion, stable at 50+, held it's value very well.

Cons - very nickable.

The point about value was good for me but not so good for people buying them used. Bought mine new from Honda for £2499, got px price of £2200 and it's now up at just over £3000. Bit mad but shortage of scooters and massive demand due to C19 / CAZ charges has driven the prices up.

Technically? Yes. Culturally? Historically? No. Fun wise? Yes.

So yes buy no but yeah.

As a well weathered ex PCX owner and having done tens of thousands of miles on mine commuting I would say get one over a sh125.

The new ones have abs. The led lights are brilliant and mine was very reliable as a commuter tool. Big screen, heated grips and muffs... If your going to look a tool you may well be as warm and comfy as possible.

Only problem was the nickable factor. Clutch bearings, headstock bearings and ceased centre stand were some of the problems I had with mine over 3 years and 34k miles.

As freegle would say.. "excellent for keeping your vagina dry" wink

Well today we bought a new PCX 125 in red, no idea when it is going to arrive. It seems scooters at the moment are being sold a lot.

Anyway will let you know how wifey gets on.

Regarding the OP's wife getting a red PCX, that shade may be more visible?:
