Predictable sluggish performance and no-one really played well but I don't see Jones or Quansah strengthening their cases for next season.
All it does is demonstrate why Slot did what he did with the first team, even if it's a bit harsh on the lads who came in today after it was all done and dusted.Hopefully some new blood next year to ask more serious questions of the first XI.

We could have quite easily won that despite the selection and general lack of quality when you look at how long we spent in their half and how many opportunities we had?
Other than Palmer they looked very average indeed I thought for a team with something still to play for.

Palmer looked class… best player on the pitch by a mile
The score flattered Chelsea, but also showed where we are weak.

Jones, Eliot, Jota, all anonymous for me.
I feel as though it's a while since Jota did anything of note, and he can't claim lack of playing time as an excuse, unlike othersTownIdiot said:

Harsh. You cannot expect certain players, who've barely 5 minutes of football in the odd game this season, in a team which has lots of changes to suddenly switch on an excellent performance. Rhythm takes time and matches to develop. What we saw today was a result of Slot NOT rotating more.Hopefully some new blood next year to ask more serious questions of the first XI.
Having said that, I've said for a while Jones, who Slot seems to rate and Nunez who gets more minutes than Chiesa both need to go. Elliott can be class especially when played as a 10 and offers something different to Szbozslai, Endo would be a useful utility player IMO but he wanted to go seek 1st team football elsewhere, I wouldn't stop in his way. I'd still keep Jota, despite his recent performances as a backup to the new 9 that surely will arrive.

That's the thing. Once I saw the team I didn't expect them to put on a performance.Having said that, I've said for a while Jones, who Slot seems to rate and Nunez who gets more minutes than Chiesa both need to go. Hence the need to shake it up a bit. In reality you need 5 players to fill the 3 slots upfront and in midfield, all who can do the job full time.

Of course, I felt the same. However most teams that make that many changes would struggle in fairness. Hence the need to shake it up a bit. In reality you need 5 players to fill the 3 slots upfront and in midfield, all who can do the job full time.
We do need changes, definitely need to build out the squad and get in Slot's players. I just hope we don't change too much, too soon. Changes needs to be evolutionary without upsetting the balance and harmony of the team - 4 good signings max maybe.

Hes a class player but was given opportunity to look good by a very poor midfield performance.
How Jones gets so much game time is beyond me, and as you say if yesterday proved anything its that despite us being champions there is plenty of work to do in the summer. We've been fortunate to have not had injuries to key players this season as a significant drop off to our bench and clearly desperately need more depth all over the pitch.

Assuming Trent and Darwin are both leaving in the summer as expectedLB - Robbo and Tsimi not good enough
RB - Bradley injury prone so need a player who can regularly start.
CB - Ibou fragile and short contract, Virgil not around forever, Quansah not ready to step up.
CDM - Grav needs backup, Endo and Jones not good enough
RW - Salah not around forever and can't keep playing 50+ games
CF - for obvious reasons
You could potentially throw a CAM in there as well as we lack a creative option against the low block.
Time to start building from a position of strength looking to the next 5 years rather than next season alone. We've spent bugger all in the last 12 months so should have a decent war chest this summer you would think?

That's a lot of positions to cover and we have some cover already.LB - Robbo and Tsimi not good enough

For CDM, we have Bajcetic. There is some player there as he showed as an 18 year old before his injury. Pre-season could be make or break for him and now he's had a taste back in Spain, he may also want to go back.
For Salah, I would like to think Chiesa could fill that, at least for the short term. Salah has been over-used there and recently we've seen a drop off from earlier in the season (at least visually) - which is completely understandable after 50+ games. He's adapted his game but Slot has to find a way a way to seamlessly integrate a right winger even for 20% of the season. Chiesa hasn't had a fair crack, in his favoured right wing position - if he stays, would like to see more of him. For £12m I can't see him moving. Would like to see Slot work with him in pre-season and get the best out of him!
