The other teams near us in the table did us a pretty big favour today too. By whatever means, a win helps steady the nerves a bit, and this one was effectively a 6 pointer.

Good 3 points against Sheffield Wednesday last Saturday and another good 3 points away at Birmingham last night; don't get the impression either performance was especially convincing but it all consolidates our play-off position. Potentially a tricky game at Fulham on Tuesday, if someone offered me a point from that one now I think I'd take it!

Well Tuesday night could have been better, but it could have been a lot worse too! Within seconds of winning that and getting forced into a draw was annoying, but its a heck of a lot better than getting 3 points closer to the non-promotion places, and it felt to me like a big test of us deserving to be in the top 6. Brighton and Huddersfield both won, but Newcastle v Reading (1 pt behind us), Shef Weds, Norwich, Preston, Derby all drew too, so it is steady as she goes.

9 points behind 2nd, 8 points in front of 7th with 30 points left to play for. We aren't exactly playing stylish confident football, but we do seem to be grinding out the points somehow.

Must admit to finding myself thinking of next season & how we'd fair with the current squad if we do gain promotion. I think we'd be favourites for relegation unfortunately. frown

I'm pretty sure we'd go straight down too (as would pretty much anyone except Newcastle) but with the advantage of a pretty hefty parachute payment!

On the other hand, I'm still thinking - make the most of it, get back where we belong, and who knows what might happen? If we don't give it everything, we may well be regretting it for years.

I still think we're a fair way off going up; I'm sure we'll give it everything for the remainder of the season but I really don't see us making the top two and, while we should secure a top six finish, our track record in the play-offs doesn't exactly inspire confidence!

If we do somehow make it back to the Premier League I agree the current squad would need some significant strengthening to stay there but that would be a nice problem for Garry Monk and the owners to have - not convinced it's one they'll need to face it this summer but would be delighted to be proved wrong!

I for one am hoping that you chaps finish fourth and Huddersfield third (or vice versa) and make it to the play off finals - I'm not really a Huddersfield fan (but I'm from the area originally) so I'd dig out my plastic fan credentials ID card and make a weekend of it in London!

Best of luck for the rest of the season beer

(just don't finish fifth if Town are third hehe)

Ermagherd! I have been out hospital visiting this evening so totally forgot about it. That and I had pretty much written this off as a loss, or at best a draw. I really wasn't expecting a 2-0 win!

A result like that has to give them confidence at this ever-so-slightly-crucial stage in the season. 8 points in front of the first non-playoff position with 8 games left.

Absolute scenes when the first goal went in. We celebrated it like it was a 90th min winner, the whole stadium was bouncing! I still believe we can launch a push for second. Tough run in but In Monk We Trust.

Oh I won pie cam again, good day out biggrin

Results of those just outside the play off places went our way too & both Reading & Brizzle did us favours with their wins.

Bugger, these results really not going well right this second!

Us losing v Burton of all people, Huddersfield went from 1-0 up to 1-4 down vs Fulham, Sheff Weds winning. Ouch!

Back in August last year I'd have been happy if someone had said we'd be fighting for a play-off place for most of the season but it will now be frustrating to finish 7th after being in the play-off places for so long. However, it looks like that's where we'll end-up and losing to Burton after recent losses at home to Cardiff and Wolves - and dropping two points at home against QPR - looks to have done for us. Obviously disappointing but being honest there have been too many matches recently where afterwards Garry Monk has been saying "we weren't at our best" and eventually that catches-up with you (and it has). Just hope we can manage to retain our key players and strengthen the squad for a stronger promotion push next season but I fear we'll lose one or two who we'd rather keep.

I've been thinking for a while that Fulham were the likely danger team and I can see them taking the 3rd promotion place if - as now looks likely - they make the play-offs. Personally I'd like to see Huddersfield or Sheffield Wednesday go up as IMO we could do with more Northern representation in the Premier League but if I was a betting man my money would be on Fulham....

Hopefully we can kick on next season & do the same as Brighton have done this season.

After the ill-timed international break, it was just like half the players had mentally finished and gone on holiday. I suspect you may be right about Fulham. Let us hope there are no stupid stories about Leeds' owners over summer, and there is some careful investment.

As a wednesdayite I'm happy that we are quietly going about our business whilst others seem to be imploding. I'm hoping to avoid Fulham though as they look pretty bulletproof at the moment......

Hopefully but I'm dreading a off season cherry picking of our players. Theres already rumours about Pontus, and I could see offers coming in for Chris Wood. And I've not seen any mention of a new contract for Garry Monk either.

Yep, that's our trouble each season. Is Pontius still officially on loan with a view to a permanent at the end of the season? If so we're stuffed for getting anything for him.

IIRC he's officially a Leeds Utd player once the loan has ended.
