Feels like we're adopting the same stance with Phillips as Villa did with Grealish a year ago (i.e. he can go but only if we're offered the very inflated price tag we've put on him). Whether that strategy enables us to keep him through the summer transfer window remains to be seen but, as you say, I get the impression Phillips isn't angling for a move whereas from the sounds of it Clarke's head had been turned and he wanted to go.....
The Mirror say that Spurs are preparing a £30m bid for Kalvin Phillips in todays gossip pages.Don't know how true it is but he certainly ticks the right Spurs boxes.
I think (hope!) any Spurs pursuit of Phillips will end the same way as their pursuit of Grealish last summer. However, I think Phillips definitely has the potential to be a full England international so if he goes we need to make sure we get full value for him; we certainly don't need another Jansson-style give-away!
Never realised we had a thread!
Lively evening with the Dubai Whites, kicked the bindippers off the TV (they share a bar with us).
My thoughts
White looks some signing, some of the cross field balls first half where out of this world.
KP quiet, unlike him, possibly distracted?
Douglas is utter garbage, gets caught out so often, doesn't have the pace to recover, Alioski will cement LB once he is fully fit.
Harrison get better and better, glad he got the goal, needs confidence when he gets to the box to back himself to score.
Lord Bamford did well, also glad he scored, needs to step up this year and justify his wages, we need 25+ from somewhere.
Pablo is GOD
Kiko is terrifying, a mistake waiting to happen, would rather BPF but that cannot happen now.
Very strange summer, where has the money gone Radz.
PS what on earth happened last 20 mins, it was like we'd been replaced by a Sunday League team...

A solid start yesterday but I thought Lee Johnson's "if that 11 stay fit they'll win the league" comment was premature to say the least!
I endorse the positive comments about White (thought he was excellent) but I still think we need another centre back to cover injuries and/or suspensions. Great to see Bamford get on the scoresheet as I think that will do wonders for his confidence; however, we can't rely on him and possibly Edmondson stepping-up for our goals and hence I think we need to replace Roofe with a Gayle or a Vydra (i.e. someone with a proven record of scoring goals in the Championship). Thought Harrison also did well yesterday - greater involvement and generally put himself around more than was often the case last season.
The only two problems for me were Casilla and Douglas. I'm afraid Casilla's just frightening at times and if we stick with him as our first choice goalkeeper all season I fear that alone could scupper our promotion chances; we've obviously let BPF go so I think we could do with getting someone like Darlow in if he's available. With Douglas it's all well and good being able to take free kicks and corners but to me the primary function of a full-back is to defend and he seems decidedly shaky where that's concerned; Bristol City founds acres of space down our left side on several occasions yesterday and if we come up against a team with a decent right winger and/or right wing-back we could be in serious trouble.
While it's difficult (and dangerous!) to read too much into one game I think we've the potential to be in the promotion mix again this season. If we land another goalkeeper, centre back and striker before the transfer window closes I'll be quite optimistic but if we run with the relatively small squad we've got I fear it will again prove tough to maintain the level over 46 games.

Looked like Groundhog Day down at ER yesterday; dominated the match, created more chances but only converted one and ended-up drawing a game we should have won. That pattern cost us dear last season and if it's repeated again I fear we'll have much the same outcome this time around; just hope young Nketiah proves to be more clinical in front of goal as and when he gets an opportunity in the team...
Anybody watched 'Take me Home' the documentary released on Amazon Prime on Friday about how last season went? Finished it this evening & I thought it was very well done & shows just how close we got to signing James from Swansea & the passion running throughout the club to get us back where we belong.

I thought it was great. No idea how much of it was for the cameras, but I really warmed to Orta - he's mental. Wonder how much of a say Radz had in the final cut? He came across okay too, although I disagree with his comments on Bielsa's spygate press conference. As you mentioned, it was amazing to get a peek behind the scenes, especially Swansea's stitching up of Dan James.
I thought I would be depressed after watching the final episode, but I feel strangely optimistic. Keeping Bielsa for another season is the best bit of business we've done for years.

For the stick he comes in for on the FB page he seems more passionate at times than Radz.Agree about feeling emosh at the last episode. Wasn't sure if I could watch it & go through losing again but I think like the squad & staff its made me more resolute that we will do it this season.

Some of the stats coming out of the first 4 games are incredible. Hopefully there will have been lessons learned from last season that will see us through this. I'm optimistic.
And Kiko is a nutter. Even for a keeper. But he completed more successful passes in the last game then anyone on the opposition team.

Nice, that's one slip-up avoided. The number of times we have played bottom of the table clubs and mentally not turned up for work, I wasn't confident today. That +3 goal difference might come in handy, all the better that it is from 3 different scorers.
Yep, the one of those historically we'd potentially mess up but played really well and got the win. Killer2005 said:

Mate of mine watched it on Beam Back and his text reckoned a lot of the 2nd half was like attackers v defenders! Suggests a 3 goal margin didn't flatter us albeit Stoke seem to be on a really poor run when you look at how they finished last season and have started this one; wonder if their manager will still be in post when we meet them again in the League Cup on Tuesday?!
We've been on a bad run for 3 1/2 years and the last 7 months under Jones have been horrific.League 1 here we come
