Interesting. How do spurs, Arsenal, manyoo and Liverpool play by different rules?

I’d particularly argue that actually you’ve bent the rules more than Arsenal and you certainly have more than Tottenham.

Probably Man U and Liverpool as well with your multi sponsorship of yourselves.

They are the “big 6” according to Sky seemingly regardless of where they finish up in the league. Revenue wise, I think they are the leading 6 clubs while us and Villa are a way off. They also happen to be the same clubs who tried to sign up to the European Super League. They want a closed shop in the Premier League and the PSR rules are designed to assist in giving these clubs the advantage to spend to keep them in the European spots and to try and restrict the growth of clubs like us and Villa (and Forest with their owner) who have money but not the established revenue stream.

Without a doubt, I recall TV progs over the years where Man U have "fans" in every part of the world, young kids in the far east, Brazil etc and LFC similar. Folk especially young kids support the team that's winning and for a long time MU were winners. LFC have been over the years and are again at the moment. LFC seem to have a happy set up, NUFC certainly come across as a happy club. Man U on the other hand seem to be somewhat difficult backstage with ownership and back room arguements.

As opposed to our usual low level pissed off about matters? Yep, I think so.

The FFP rules have bitten us hard this last year or so, coupled to a complicit set of PL rule makers & media in the pockets of the chosen few.

I do think we need to start taking the piss, there’s not a lot left to lose frankly.

Those same PSR rules have hit 14 teams hard. Everyone has the same rules, just the legacy big 6 have higher earnings so can spend more.

The FFP/PSR rules apply to all and have impacted all, even Man Utd have been limited and must sell to buy.

"Media in the pockets" - I havent noticed any obvious bias (maybe I am) but clearly the media will write what sells papers / clicks, and that will be the clubs with the most readers, this stat is pretty stark:

Some clubs have got around the rules legally, and loopholes have been tightened as a result (eg player contracts capped at 5 years), hopefully City will be punished. Many other clubs have been punished for breaking the rules, most recently Chelsea and the reversal of the hotel and womens club sale (something you bang on about here).

No doubt you are already mildly taking the piss on Saudi sponsors, as "arms length" valuations are an art not a science

With respect that doesn’t answer the question, I agree regarding the ESL a completely regrettable affair but that didn’t even end up happening and don’t for a second think Newcastle wouldn’t have joined if invited.

So, how are spurs arsenal Man U and Liverpool playing by different rules?

There is a media bias towards the big 6. If an early kick off involves 2 teams lower down the league, and the late kick off involves 2 of the traditional 'big 6', there will be a heck of a lot of chat about the later kick off during the earlier game.

I don't think Newcastle fans can blame PSR for their current woes this window though. I'd say that's more to do with not having key people in place coming into the summer.

PSR has meant that the clubs who have been successful in the past have been allowed to build revenues unimpeded. Those clubs (the big 6) can be doing badly in footballing terms but it doesn't affect their ability to buy the best players and get ahead because they can pay them wages that the other clubs can't. If your club doesn't have the revenues of the big 6, the wages they can offer are capped at a lower rate to those of the big 6. To say Man U have been negatively affected by PSR is a bit misleading. They can stop the best players going to other clubs by simply throwing higher wages at them. It's a monopoly.

The rules are the same for everyone (someone above took my comment a little too literally), but they've been designed in such a way that restricts the bottom 14 from spending to the full extent of their capability, while the top 6 get a free reign to more or less do whatever they please (in comparison, not in absolute terms). This simply has the effect of widening the gap every year between the "haves" and the "have nots".

Surely most rational people can see why the fans of the other 14 get totally pissed off with it. The system is rigged against us. Ergo, to me, premier league football is not a sport, it's just "entertainment". You can only call it a sport if everyone has an equal opportunity to compete, which they don't.

Agreed, to clarify there is a huge bias toward the biggest clubs or biggest stories in terms of volume, I was referring to bias in tone or argument

Liverpools fortunes only really changed when we installed a world class recruitment team. Only Karius, Keita and Nunez haven't lived up to expectations. That's an amazing hit rate.

This recruitment process extends to managerial appointments. Klopp was an obvious fit, but how many had even heard of Slot before he became our manager? He was recruited because he was in the same mould as Klopp and played a similar system so we wouldn't need to immediately over haul our squad.

See Amorim at Utd. Round players for the managers square pegs. That's going to take seasons to sort out!

Now Slots proven himself, we are backing him in the transfer market.

Speaking of Amorim, most of our fans wanted him... So get your hierarchy and recruitment properly sorted and trust them. Until then you'll remain rudderless IMO.

It all stems from that.

And from what I've read, broken promises by whoever is in charge at the moment, is one of the things Isak is unhappy with.

Previous bantz aside, I like Newcastle, and think you deserve better.

I agree. Liverpool is a well run club, and from all of the sky 6, is the club I have the most respect for, even if I do dread playing you lot

I agree that our club behind the scenes is an utter mess. It all seemed to start when Amanda and Merdhad left. Until we get that sorted, we are not moving forward.

I think a lot of fans are feeling salty right now because after the success of last season, this close season was vitally important for the club to really take things by the horns and move forward, and yet we've now a weaker squad than before the season ended, with the champions League ahead of us (and now extra matches), it's starting to look like this could be a disappointing season when it should have been great. This debacle will set us back years, I predict.

Twas ever thus with the toon, nearly always been a st show in my lifetime, and it doesn't look like changing any time soon.
