The article also says he told Eddie Howe he wanted to leave before the window opened.
If that's the case, Newcastle have made a complete mess of this.
They refused to increase his salary last year and he's played on, feeling unappreciated.
Makes his position more understandable, if unprofessional.
He just needs to move. Newcastle need to tell him/his agent his price and ask Liverpool to pay it.
If they want him that much, surely the only option is to call their bluff and not let them wait for an end of window bargain as they are clearly planning on.
If they won't pay it, then it will put Isak in a tricky spot...

I am not sure 110 plus add ons taking it to around 120, an EPL record, could be considered a bargain. The 150 number has been thrown about but has that been confirmed by MUFC as the asking price?Regardless a player is worth what another club will pay, and at the moment we are in a one horse race so will be interesting to see who blinks first.

Downing tools the way he has is unwarranted and unprofessional, even if he is pissed off at broken promises.

By the way, the "promises" that were made to Isak were around money, not the ability to join another club. When Mitchell came in those promises were broken. I can understand a player feeling aggrieved that a change in management has led to that promise not materialising, but I'll reiterate, this was never about him being allowed to join another club.

I imagine he's smart enough to know that this is the only powerplay he has left to try and force a move with the recruitment challenges the club is facing in finding a replacement for him.
