I'm old enough to remember the Newcastle Chronicle, and the Journal and the Pink.
I regularly see clickbait behind some sort of paywall which inevitably is full of adverts, is irrelevant, no really local or just total bullst.

Ronnie Gill on Northumberland St.
Can you remember the blind man who used to play the accordion just down from there, probably nearer to Fenwicks, was there for years travelled in from Hexham iirc?
Other characters from the time - Big Heck (RIP) and Moondancer.

....Tommy on the Bridge was a bit before my time
Aye it's over 30 years since Big Hec died. Whenever he came into a pub it was always "Awww ste here's Big Hec" biggrin
Remember someone on the SMB telling a story about him on a matchday "Any predictions for the match Hec?" "Aye there'll be 5 goals Sunderland will win 4-2" biggrinbiggrin

Where do you think they had a piss? Used to see squadrons of them coming out of the arches on Westgate Road must've been based down Forth Banks sort of way. Well it was Westlers or Keegans but they used to be all over the place, happy days quality bait biggrin
Seem to recall a similar culinary delight seller outside "Stiffs" of a weekend.

(Stiffs - Tiffany's)
My mate was a bouncer there, he had some canny tales biglaugh

May have met the girl of my dreams in there. But I was pretty ratted and she walked away again......

Adam Clerys take on things. Hard to argue with much of that.

Watched it last night and it broadly aligns with my view on things. I think Eddie has to have another summer. A good question remains on whether the Squad and club as a whole is able to manage the multiple competitions etc which (unfortunately) we're unlikly to have as a problem next year. Either way we have to grow into that or we'll never be able to retain the really hot talent who want Champions League regularly and want to win things regularly

Yep there's a lot of excuses but the excuses are valid and it needs another season to see if the problems we've been through can be ironed out with a good cup run and finish strongly in the PL.

Does make you wonder though when things are highlighted like Woltemade being subbed off as Murphy is being subbed on. Deliverer of great balls into the box coming on at the same time you take off 6' 6" target man. Doesn't make sense.

Watched the post-match interview and have to say that I have never seen Eddie so down, I am not sure he will make it to next season.

Never a dull moment, plenty circulating on Eddies position and summer sales today.

Brought on by Hopkinson some strange comments from him.

I'm in 2 minds on it. The view that we need to finish this season strongly is a fair one for an MD to take (albeit one can question whether it was the right thing to be quite so open on). If we have a weak finish with some key players back and back to a normal run of games per week then there will definitely be more questions on whether Eddie's still the guy / has lost the room / whatever.

I personally would expect him to have that discussion with Eddie but probably would have counselled against being quite so open about it to press

Not good business practice to say what he has apparently said

Yeah, the media reaction would certainly suggest his comments were ill advised and open to be skewed. It seems we're open to selling all our best players now, which isn't exactly what he said, but you see how it could be interpreted that way, particularly by the gutter press.

It would be naive, at best, to think we're not open to selling our best / most valuable players. They're just a revenue stream in a business model.

We paid, what, £40m for Bruno, £55m for Tonali, £40m for Gordon? We could probably bring north of £250m on those three. That would be a compelling figure for the business to consider.

The reinvestment of those funds would be the problematic thing for me and whether we'd do so wisely.

It'd be great if we had another £300m of income so we could keep players but, we're not there yet.

If they go, they go. We'll survive and support them when we go again.

No point stressing about it. Nothing we can do to control it.

Trippier to leave this summer.

Absolutely THE most pivotal signing in our recent history.

The free kick against Everton.
The free kick against City.
The cross for Dan Burn in the Carabao Final.

Three moments from many. His calmness, experience and leadership were key to our turn around the season he joined.

He'll be missed.

Certainly one of the most influential players in club history, both on and off the pitch. A great leader, and someone who believed in us when many others didn’t. It’s a sensible decision, but I really hope he can have some sort of role with the club in the future.

Let’s just hope he’s not the only right back we lose this summer.
