There's a lot of questions which need to be answered by the board. There seems to be a definite split in the fans now between blind optimism and those of us who are concerned as to our immediate future. We've lost so much experience, and players and managerial staff who created the identity of the club. There's a heavier burden on the likes of Burn, Schar, Joelinton, Murphy (maybe Willock) to try and show both players and staff what it means to play for the club because I feel we have lost much of the heart that was in it. In isolation, losing abl manager or a player isn't a huge issue, but losing a complete backroom team and most of our marquee players could create a crisis.

Can't see Joelinton or Willock being there.
Miley, Ramsey, Woltemade & Murphy possible midfield
Tino, Lewis H, BDB(Capt.) and Schar/Botman at the back
Up front Barnes & Toney(?)

I'll ask Ray who should be our first choice Keeper

I thought this was a good article although not sure why we couldn't have had it from Hopkinson a couple of weeks ago when everything felt uncertain and chaotic. I also liked Jaissle's first proper intro video and what he had to say about effort and togetherness.

So I'm optimistic again, although also realistic that this will likely be a tough season

The times I haven't posted on this thread were when my old Dad was on his wind down and when I had 2 big C scares so just crack on with your utter ste

Pleased the Bruno thing is over - the fee is not bad all things considered.

I'm convinced we were going down if Eddie remained at the helm so staying up would be a bonus this season and if we do go down then so be it.

That said, I'm quietly confident we might surprise a few this season. A mid table finish would be a great result.

Just reading the comments, how far have we fallen that a mid-table finish would be considered a good result. I mean I kind of agree, but surely that means we are back to the days of Steve Bruce when his 12th place finish in 2020-21 was considered decent (and in fairness it was at the time given the budget restrictions he was operating under)!! Just not a good place to be in really given the investment that has been made in the team since the Saudi take over and even after all the recent player departures, we are 7th in the 5 year net spend table. I do think however that Newcastle are following the Bournemouth template and will have the element of surprise this season. Could go one of two ways couldn't it. The new manager does seem highly regarded and won several domestic trophies in Austria so he does have that in his favour...

Interested Leeds fan here as a load of my mates are Newcastle fans and I'll admit to a soft spot for them. All I'll say is that Leeds fans have PTSD from our short time with a highly regarded Austrian title winning coach

Hope it works out but plucking a coach who realistically, nobody has ever heard of before, from the Saudi league is a big risk regardless of how well regarded he is.

That said, we don't have a squad to challenge for anything meaningful at the moment. I'd be over the moon with a mid-table finish at this rate. That winning the league by 2030 is going to be the most incredible feat when it happens!

Ray, as for the banter etc, thick or thin skinned, apparently, you yourself should know people might be going through things and don't necessarily want to respond to personal quips in the light hearted way you're expecting. If you look just a few pages back you'll see my father passed away recently, so provocative comments like this in response to someone saying they're sat having a beer with a toon top on, don't always land where you think they'll land.
