Great stuff, unexpected and the icing on the cake of an excellent season.

Wonder if the villa fans enjoyed winning the title for us as much as relegating us. laugh

Newcastle deserved the title over the whole season...but we bottled it totally...what we were doing in the 89th minute with an extra man is beyond me...letting in late goals as usual, should never have got that far when you need 3 from 3 and at the top of the table. Credit to Newcastle though for getting the 9 points and look forward to playing you again next season.

To be honest, it's nice to have it, but I've not met anyone who was that fussed, promotion was all that mattered.

Chris H has done a magnificent job for you and again proved to be a true gent with his comments at the end of it all.

Here's to next season, it'll be tough, and assuming it doesn't impact us, good luck!

Hughton is a great manager and I don't think most Brighton fans will take issue with Newcastle....Millwall and palace maybe smile

Don't get me wrong after all these years I'm chuffed with promotion which as you say is what really matters, but its the manner in which they played the last three games that I find irritating...you didn't see Newcastle not turning up or just giving up the title. We need to spend in the right places next season.

Good luck as well, hope both teams manage to stay up next season and for some years.

I'm really pleased for Houghton as he was hung out to dry by us. He's a good manager and a true gent. I'm with the other fans in that promotion was 95% of the season for us, the last 5% was a nice way to top it off. I did say on the day the title was yours to lose rather than ours to win which seems to be the case. All we could do was perform well to the end and win our games which we did. I can't gloat too much about the last minute drama. I still remember a certain Premier League title slipping away from us after an even bigger lead!

Looking forward to playing you guys next season.

Agree completely with the other comments on Hughton, he was treated appallingly by Mike Ashley having done a brilliant job in difficult circumstances. He's a proper gent and judging by his track record an extremely good manager, he deserves all the success he achieves.

The title could have gone to either side this season, I really don't think there was anything to choose between them, the best two sides in the Championship by some distance were promoted.

I disagree however with those that say Brighton's achievement is somehow significantly better than Newcastle's (pundits mainly), I think they are quite similar for very different reasons.

On the face of it Newcastle spent (gross) a reasonable sum of money on players and have the facilities and fanbase to walk out of the league with ease compared to Brighton. However, this completely ignores a number of very pertinent facts:

- Newcastle was a poisoned club when it was relegated with a losing mentality and a fanbase at odds with the owner, turning that around is an achievement in itself
- Newcastle lost a number of players of Premier League quality that needed to be replaced
- Newcastle didn't sign a single player in the January window to strengthen the squad
- Newcastle made a net profit of £30m on transfers
- Rafa was in his first full season with the team and still instilling his ideas
- Brighton have a very astute manager of their own
- Brighton have had multiple seasons to build a squad and style of play
- Brighton themselves have some absolutely top notch payers like Knockaert
- Brighton entered the season continuing with a relatively successful squad and style of play

Essentially, two teams starting from two very different positions but, balanced in terms of negatives/positives, finding some middle ground at the top of the Championship table. beer

What is impressive is the speed at which they've held and concluded the talks. It gives the media no time to build up a head of steam over the lack of an announcement and quietens the gobstes (for a little while).

Hugely positive news and bodes well for a productive summer.

Get in indeed!

Good news. I'm optimistic - Rafa put his reputation on the line In the Championship, I doubt he'd want to do it again with a relegation fodder team.

Sadly they appear to be true.

RIP fella.

You'll be remembered for a propensity to pick up yellow cards and THAT goal against Arsenal.
