I like Gayle. You hear nothing bad about him, no grumbles about not playing and no sulking. He always gives it everything and the Championship season he was phenomenal for us - he should rightly be remembered for that.
I do think he struggles against Premier League defences, so can't see him going to another PL club.
He'd smash it in the Championship, so I'm surprised we've had or, at least, not heard of any suitors for him.

In the past week I've seen Gayle linked to Boro, Fulham, Norwich and Forest, but I'd be surprised if it didn't end up being one of the Championships clubs.

I like the lad, but we do need to shift him. £30k a week and was given just 106 minutes on the pitch all season. That's some hourly rate.

Botman official. Another one of Eddie's targets through the door.

Was hoping we would steal Raphinha but he's not going to come to us if Chelsea or Arsenal are sniffing about (yet)

Let's hope they're still looking at attackers to give us more options or when Wilson gets injured.

I'm not sure I like this whole "getting deals over the line" thing we've got going on rofl

It’s very odd isn’t it? And 3 deals done before the lads are back for pre-season. It’s almost like the last owner & management didn’t know what they were doing.

scratchchin

Seriously though, they are looking suspiciously like a well-ran club at the moment. Very bizarre.

You know that bit in the western where the cowboys in the fort look out at the hills and say ‘It’s quiet, too quiet’……

Couple of decent results from very solid opposition over the last 48 hours. Quite an interesting approach to the friendlies especially this weekend but there's benefits for Eddie I guess, able to see most of his squad get a full 90 mins just before the season starts.

Shame we haven't been able to bolster our fire-power as much as we'd have hoped but I'm still looking forward to the season

I think fielding 2 separate 11s plus room for young players on the bench in an almost sell out stadium is a great way of assessing his options. The likes of Ritchie and Matty given the opportunity to show whether or not they'll feature.

I'm still hopeful of another 2 in the door but we've got a good group hopefully to take us to the next level.

Howe has signed a new long term deal.

Very happy with that.

Indeed.
Been a little out of touch of late but was expecting a big name signing. Maybe after the second half of last season we don't need one.

We spent poorly on Wood given how much we wanted someone who could backup Wilson. I have doubts he'd stay free of injury so I think we still need another forward or at least someone who can be relied upon for goals. Other than that, it's been a decent summer.

I still think Wood was purchased from Burnley not so much to add another goal scorer to the Newcastle team but to remove one from Burnley so that in the event of both teams being in a relegation battle the toon would have the slight upper hand.

Hes not exactly a player that fits directly into how Eddie sets up the team.

Seems like a solid start from the lads. Plenty more opportunities than goals. Definitely need to get another scoring option but I'll take a well-played positive win at home to start the season!

I think the visitors came for a draw so we were dictating most of the game and we played like a team.
We did find it hard to penatrate them however there were many positives mainly that we are hungry to go forward and score.
Bruno again showed he is a class act, he is calm and in charge when he has the ball and a couple of his through passes were excellent.

Seen worse, much worse, in the first game of the season.

Forest seemed to be set up for a point, somewhat understandable given the amount of new players, away from home etc.

Had chances a plenty, but took something special to get the ball rolling, Bruno absolute class, but also thought Big Joe, Miggy & Willock had decent games.

Do need someone else to back up Wilson, he’s a class act as well, but against better opposition we may not get that many opportunities to put it to bed, and he’s likely to miss a chunk of the season at some stage. Still can’t figure out how he scored that by the way, magician.

Anyway onwards and upwards with some positivity for once.

Only based on MOTD last night, I'd say a great start, couldn't ask for better. Joelinton seemed on fire, cracking goal from Schar. Hadn't realised he'd bought Pope. Seemed to have a steady game but I still like Dubrovka
