It's being touted around that Jack Ross is the new manager.

Being reported here in Scotland that the club have been given permission to speak to him.

Nailed on imo.

And to think all us Ipswich fans thought we were getting Jack Ross and getting all excited...never mind, I head Megson is still looking lol!

Sounds like Ross was talking to Donald before they even had the club, St Mirren not happy, but that's football.

As a Toon supporter I sincerely hope that the new regime puts you on the road to recovery, don't like seeing any of our North East clubs struggling. I reckon we could have been in the same situation if it hadn't been for Benitez !.

Good luck, Onward's and upward's hopefully.

With the arrival of Glen Loovens, we've now signed seven new players - the others being Tom Flanagan, Chris Maguire, Jon McLaughlin, Alim Ozturk, Reece James and Dylan McGeouch.

Much of the 'rotten core' has gone/is going, Rodwell finally fked off, the leachy tt, and it appears the new owner and manager are much more keen to connect the club and fans. Will this be enough to see us progress this season?

My eldest son's bestie plays for Charlton, so first game is going to be interesting!

As a wolves fan I see a lot of similarities with the relegations and lazy players on big contracts along with clueless owners. It looks like you are making good progress in setting up for League 1 the right way. We had a blast in League 1 and I think you guys will too.

Agreed - have some very good friends who are Wolves fans and we've had very similar conversations. In a perverse way, I'm looking forward to League 1 - we get to go to some new places that aren't quite as 'shiney' as the Prem/Champ clubs, and often far more fun. Nothing better than having a few pints and a bit of banter with the home fans before a game.

I can still remember the last time we hit the third level, for one season only, but what a brilliant season it was. Some great away trips that year!

Nine players in so far, a still two strikers needed IMO; there's a mid fielder from Wycombe incoming once his medical is done so that's a bonus. Reasonably impressed with the new regime so far, it's early days though and after years of absolute pish I guess that the bar is set quite low.

I was at the St Mirren friendly t'other week; I worked on that stadium when it was built in 2008 so that was a decent return trip, a good result too.

Really looking forward to the new season, hi hoooooo.

Match day! Pub ahoy! biggrin

Juan Sartori has joined the Sunderland board after buying a 20% stake in the club, he's the owner of a South American investment company called Union Group, he will be attending the match against Charlton today.

He's a long term friend of the current majority shareholder, but I have no idea how they met. He's in his late thirties so he isn't an old chap; he's also married to the woman who owns AS Monaco in trust, so I'd imagine that he's fairly wealthy and this will only represent a minor investment for him.

Fingers crossed for the future, the new ownership/leadership, signings and noises coming out of the club are all being well received, it's a shame that we had to end up in League One but we'll soon sort that little niggle out, me thinks.

We were lucky to be only 1 down at HT.

Different team in second half though.

Absolutely - that fills me with confidence, a half time talk that actually changed the way we played. We probably (just) deserved that on the second half performance. And who doesn't love a winner deep in injury time?

My son's bestie started for Charlton, had a good game, but I'll be offering some 'banter' next time he's round.

Terrible first half, agreed. I think we could do with some more pace at centre back too.

We really grew in to the game and took control in the second half with good pressing and possession, when was the last time that happened?

The quality on show at times was abysmal, the amount of space Maja had to turn and shoot was criminal, no defenders near him, nothing. Not that I'm complaining biggrin

Who gave the penalty away? 100% stonewall, what was he thinking? confused

Maguire.

I don't think that we'll sign any more permanent transfers in this window, but the loan one is open until the end of the month and I expect some activity there. Could do with a CM, CB and a striker IMO, sooner rather than later given our current injury situation and the games coming thick and fast.

We played some bloody good football today, and should have won by a few more. Jack's football is starting to look effective at this level, and his signings are starting to gel - could be a fun season!

Just back in Aberdeen now, what a drive home, the weather was abysmal once we reached the A1; absolutely pissing down!

That first half performance was bloody excellent, the speed of our movement and passing was fantastic, compare and contrast with the ste that we were served last season, it's night and day!

Shorpe came back in to it a bit in the second half, but I'm not sure if that was them stepping it up or us taking our foot off of the gas as we were comfortable score line wise and we have a game on Wednesday so there was no point taking any risks.
