Just had a recall notice for our 2003 Honda Accord.

Apparantly, there could be an issue with the front passenger airbag on some 2001, 2002 and 2003 models.
That's unusual to have a recall dating back that far, don't you think?

They are doing it free of charge, obviously.

I had a recall on my 1986 Golf when it was 15 years old. Can't remember, but they did something to the steering for free.

As part of Honda's continuous quality monitoring activities, we have become aware that a safety defect may exist in certain 2001, 2002 and 2003 year model Honda Accord, Accord Tourer, Civic, Stream, Jazz and CR-V vehicles.

Due to a manufacturing process error, in some vehicles, the passengers' airbag inflator could produce excessive internal pressure if the airbag deploys in an impact. The increased internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture and fragments could pass into the passenger compartment, possibly causing injury to the vehicle occupants.

To rectify this potential problem the repair method will be to replace the airbag inflator.

It's only 2003 Accords that are affected, somehow Takata, the manufacturer of the airbag system fecked up.... google search it but don't read about the yanks stuff, that's a whole other can of worms.

AFAIK the following is affected
2001 - 2003 Civic coupe and 4 door (4 door generally not sold in UK) is recalled (Could include 2003 Hybrid)
2002 - 2003 Jazz is recalled
2001 - 2003 Stream is recalled
2003 Accord Saloon and Tourer

If you want to check if there outstanding recalls against your car you can input the chassis number here.... http://www.honda.co.uk/cars/owners/you-and-your-ca...

Further update for anyone on here - this now applies to the FD2 Civic, so if you've got one, get in touch with Honda UK.

Further update!
Had another recall letter a few weeks ago regarding passenger airbag with a similar problem to the original recall.
I have passed this on to the new owner.

Must be costing Honda a fortune rectifying these faults. This is on a 16 year old Accord!

Good that Honda are being pro-active though and it only helps their reputation in my book rather than denying the problem ever existed like VAG do. I've got the letter too about my 2006 Accord tourer. Part of me thinks its a way of getting me into their shiny new showrooms though! laugh

I believe your model predates the problems (I'm assuming yours is a CH-series - same shape as the ATR), but worth double-checking.
