I have just bought a 57 plate black & black Outback 3.0 with 75K on the clock for £5000.

Very pleased with it. Covered about 250 miles in just over a week. Not quite in the same league as the Audi A8 it replaced but very well equipped and great value for money.

Sold our 2007 3.0rn in October. Was a great car, but parts are pricey

Hi blueg33. Out of interest how much did you sell your car for ?

I have heard parts are pricey but then they seem to have a great reputation for reliability, so should not need many new parts.

Mine had 120k miles and needed fix to blowing exhaust, front and rear suspension bushes. So i factored those in. I alse needed a quick sale so sold for £23k to first buyer. It had us and subaru as the only owners

Ooops, that mistake was because I sold my Lotus for £23k last month. The Outback was £2.3k

It was reliable with the exception of suspension bushes which need frequent replacement. CV boots are pricey and cv joints more so, If the boots aren't the official Subaru ones they will leak and spray grease all over the exhaust which smell awful and tales about 18 months to burn off even after the exhaust being washed down with Gunk

I hope the Outback serves you well. I had one of the same age, a 2.5 on a 57 plate brand new and traded it for another in September 2010, it clocked 100k miles the week before we parted company and never missed a beat. I've had both updated models since and they've been similarly reliable. Regular oil changes with quality oil and genuine filters are vital.

Freds - looks like you were doing 30/35 K pa. I will only do about 8/9 K pa. This will be the family wagon. 2 TVR's and a corvette for pleasure driving.

I don't really like the front end look of the newer legacy estates.

The car wasn't often still, I was doing regular journeys from home in The Yorkshire Dales to Gairloch in the Highlands in those days, the model which followed (2010 to 2015) was a good car but let down by an uninspiring interior, the current model I have really is a very good car, much more refined on the road and the interior is superb.
Hopefully doing 8-9k miles per year you won't have any problems on a 10 yr old Outback, that engine is terrific.

Best car we've owned. I have a 2010 plate just like yours at just over 50k now and it's flawless. Put a spec-b grill on it and it looks much better.
