mx5 series 1 1993--running lights do not work--help please

the small front running / front parking lights (the small lights at the lateral margins of the clear strip beneath the retractable headlights , next to the front turn indicators ) on both sides have suddenly stopped working
the dash lights, the rear parking lights , headlights (dip and mainbeam) , and horn , all work perfectly
where would the fault lie ? ---- where is the fuse ?
NB : a few years ago , I removed a relay that allowed the running lights to come on at the first twist of the light control stalk , WITHOUT allowing the pop-up headlights to elevate simultaneously
This has never presented a problem previously
