Hi, to everyone, nearly thought I would ever be allowed to post here, was on the verge of quitting.

Anyway bought a cheap 2001 MRS as a summer fun car and wonder if any owners or ex owners could help me out.

The lockers behind the seat are locked, I can't get them open, I am guessing you use the same key as you use for the rest of the locks so is there any secrets to opening/unlocking them.

Secondly the pre cat. There seems to be only old posts on the subject, will the car still pass its MoT without it? Asked the garage I have used for years to repair and service my cars but they refused to do it, how much should it cost?

So many forum topics on this site but no Toyota one!

Hi, and welcome!

The ignition key should unlock the compartments behind the seats. Maybe if they've been locked for a very long time a bit of WD40 in the locks might help?
It's just an ordinary 90° key turn to lock / unlock them.

If the main cat is still in place then removing the pre-cats will be fine (and not visible) for the M.O.T.

They were fitted for the much more stringent emissions regulations in places like Los Angeles.
I removed mine a couple of years ago, like this:

Just make sure you get it ALL out and then clean it thoroughly, I used a pressure washer.

But do be prepared for rusty / snapped studs and bolts, it can be quite a faff of a job because of this.

You can also buy aftermarket exhaust manifolds quite reasonably, which don't include pre-cats.

Enjoy it, I love these cars! driving

Many thanks for your reply.

Was going to get a MGF, (a friend had one once had one) but the cost of owning one led me to the MR2. Only drove it for 50 miles so far and most of that was in traffic on the M6, but it felt very light to drive.

Can't wait until April when I get to tax it. Meanwhile it is waiting for a car cover from AliExpress, although I think they sent it by tortoise as it is taking forever

I think I will get a garage to do the decating, seems pointless spending £120 on a manifold if I can use the one I have.

As for the lockers, I find it odd they are both stuck
