Evening all... I recently bought an 07 2l sport with just under 100k on the clock with the aim of using it for track days. My overall aim is to have a track biased but road legal car so I've had a roll bar put in, fluids have been changed and organic stage 2 clutch installed. The set up is for fast road/track driving. So far so good - done a couple of track days and all well and so now thinking what else I would like to get done over the winter. Car rolls too much so new suspension and lowering is a must. Could do with a bit more oomph, better brake feel - after about 7-10 laps the brakes are going off a bit. Also, seats, harnesses, tyres...

Can you give me your thoughts? I've heard good things about BBR and also Meister. What would you all do? Forget how much it might cost for a moment - I'll factor that in later, but I'd really like to hear what your ideal world recommendations would be plus pitfalls to avoid.

Thanks

so

I would go,.

Coil overs, speak to Blink or Roddo. They will be able to advise on spring rates.
Manifold, Intake and re-map will add a few more ponies.
Add a full system for more noise/bit more power.
You may find the engine is a bit tired at 100k, get a compression test done as the rings are probably done. I would do that prior to getting a turbo.
Brakes, set of disks, pads (Yellow stuff are a solid bet) + fluid change. The standard calipers are fine but check they aren't binding.
Set of Tyre's

After that, make it lighter.

Pretty much this.

Ohlins should be your no.1 choice for coilovers, then MeisterR. This will cost you £1000-1500
Manifold and remap should get you to 180bhp, beyond that it becomes expensive.
The standard brakes are fine, they just need decent pads/discs for track work. Don't bother spending money on bigger brakes at this stage.
I've fitted a Safety Devices roll cage so I've done the whole seats, harnesses, etc.

Ditto the above. I have a mk2.5 built into a fastroad/occasional trackday car now and looking to get a mk3 and turn it to a similar spec.

My research suggests Ohlins for suspension, rebuilt calipers with yellowstuff pads for stopping, BBR manifold and remap for some more torque then exhaust, wheels and tyres to taste.

Depends how serious you are about about trackdays, you could spend an infinite amount of money.

I have a mk3.5 and I have fitted cup 2's (215's), decent brake fluid and Carbotech pads, that's it.

Regular servicing and it just takes lap and lap after lap. Great car.

After ten trackdays the front cup 2's are looking a bit battered.

Thank you. I was thinking about seats/harnesses too - standard seats and belts seem to have me propping myself against the transmission tunnel. My roll bar has a harness bar but I do want to remain road legal so I can drive to and from circuits. Anyone got any views on the BBR 200 upgrade? I prefer the idea of keeping things naturally aspirated.

Join the European MX5 Facebook group, there's a gut on there called Adam James Taylor who sells an adapter to allow you to fit bucket seats.

Yep, I've used these brackets to fit my Tillett seats.

There's also KW coilovers. Corten Miller's demo car runs Variant 3's and I was very impressed with them. Far better than my Meisters, but then they should be for £1700.
